Raid Scaling since the prepatch

So I have been farming Shadowlands raids for weeks and now all the sudden I cant get past the first boss in Sanctum of Domination on Heroic difficulty and I have done so on my Death Knight, Warrior and Hunter.

But from what I can tell, the health and damage of my characters seems to be the same if not more.

So why all the sudden is this boss a massive wall that I cant get past? Like he kills me before I get him to like 50% HP where as I barely lost any health at all in weeks prior fighting him the entire fight.

What changed?

Mob HP in Shadowland raids seems to have nearly tripled, Vigilant Guardian mythic went from 65~mil to 165mil, Shriekwing from 22mil to 66 mil. Damage is higher too, the trash packs at the start of sepulcher which tickled me before now needed me to actually heal myself. I’m thinking this is just some bug with the all raids being Awakened is somehow applying to Shadowlands too because of the old Fated system in here.

I believe this same thing happened to Legion raids and then BFA raids after them. It’s basically precedent at this point that they slow the treadmill by buffing old content at the same time as player power.

I am experiencing the same issue. I have been soloing the first boss in Sepulcher of the First Ones to get to Taskmaster Xy’pro for the Mawforged Bridle, and at a 515 gear level, I did it with relative ease. I can no longer solo this boss; I just die multiple times. This is really frustrating, and it makes no sense. I remember something similar happening after the level squish.

you will be able to solo as expected once you reach level cap (currently 80)

It isn’t though. Legion wasn’t raised to BFA levels when the Dragonflight pre-patch dropped. WoD wasn’t raised to Legion levels when the Shadowlands pre-patch dropped (and remained just as soloable after that squish because they properly applied the legacy scaling aura). Not sure where this is coming from but it’s completely false.

All the gear from WoD raids through BFA was also updated to match SL raid gear, which has literally never happened in a non-squish patch.

Yea it’s a little silly lol.

I am farming some Legion raids and the gear dropping is around 250 ilvl but when you get a new transmog appearance and click on that link, it shows the ilvl at around 50.

So the gear drops are around 5x higher ilvl than what is was prior.

If you want some beast lvling gear… get someone to farm those raids and push all the gear to you and you would be a beast of a god for a bit lol.

Amazing for twinking if that’s still a thing lol.

Are those drops’ level requirements still at Legion level? If so, I could definitely see all this being fixed. Way too strong for low levels.

They made some change some time ago where you only see the character level requirement when your at or below the requirement. but any gear you are above the required level… it doesn’t say the level requirement for some reason.

But I got some Legion level characters that I haven’t touched since which is level 45. So in theory, you should be able to equip level 250ish gear from Legion on a level 45.

Sadly, I sold most of my gear from those toons to make space as i got the free updated gear package on those toons.

However, I think I have 1 toon that I can log into and see its Legion gear… I am curious if the gear he has on from Legion has been updated to a higher item level or not. Ill check soon after I finish this raid farm.

Edit:

Just got a BOE gear from Nighthold.
It is level 45 required and illvl 243 from Mythic difficulty.

Edit:

Can confirm, the old Legion gear you got prior to the update is still a low around lvl 50 ilvl gear.

But any new gear you get is around 250 ilvl lol.

So grab a friend and gear up some alts for fast leveling lol.

I am willing to help gear someone’s alt up if you help me as well lol.

Let me know.

Edit:

Also something to note. The legion legendaries are ilvl 251 now. To compare, you got BFA Azerite gear at ilvl 60 lol.

Dungeons are scaled horribly too. I’ve been soloing mythic Necrotic Wake every week to try and get the mount, my ilvl 525 character barely killed the first boss. I decided to leave since I wasn’t even sure I could handle the big trash packs later on. Everything was hitting like a truck.

So I tried to do the Sylvanas encounter on Raid Finder (trying to get that elusive quiver back transmog) and she is bugged…

She just comes up to me and stands there and does nothing and I actually got her down to 1% but then nothing.

Tried again and same thing, she just stands there.

Totally bugged, cant progress / complete fight at all lol.

That isn’t justification for losing the ability to solo things we already could. I remember the days when the release of WotLK didn’t suddenly make 70s unable to run 60 dungeons. The release of Cata didn’t make 80s suddenly unable to run 70 dungeons “until they hit the new cap.”

That’s what this scaling garbage has done. No more progression, just restoring the status quo.

i’m not saying i think it’s great. the question was why it’s different now compared to before pre-patch. that’s why.

I’m going to reiterate here that “new level cap is required to solo old content you could solo before” was never an intended thing. They admitted they messed up Legion legacy scaling at the last squish and it got boosted to 8x as a result. No other pre-patch has done what this pre-patch has done with legacy content spanning 5 expansions prior to the current.

Considering it allows you to get utterly broken gear as low as level 45, as proven earlier in the thread, it seems like something went majorly wrong.

EDIT: Out of curiosity, I logged on a level 10 alt and checked out the WoD dungeon journal. WoD raid gear can be equipped as low as level 40 but it’s still item level 215 at that level. Twink players will have a field day with this in those brackets if it doesn’t get fixed.

The ilvl increase also affects the vendor values of these items. Blizzard’s going to nerf it simply for that reason alone. They don’t want players farming legacy content for raw gold.

Not to mention the ilvl increase has also buffed longstrider on azerite gear for those pre SL speed sets. I can run at 260% speed in mine if I swap to my speed talents (as they have SMF which gives 5% movement speed).

And they nerfed the gold vendor values AND speed stat on all the old raid gear BUT DID NOT nerf the raids or implement a legacy buff.

It’s disappointing that no one currently on the CC seems to solo old content above Legion and notice this very disappointing change by now. A few other hot-button issues that have come up between beta and the pre-patch only got responses from Blizzard after CC threads were made about them (even though those threads didn’t get the actual responses). There hasn’t been a topic about legacy content in some time, actually, so I wouldn’t even know who to mention.
