Hi there, looking to maybe get a conversation started around the raiding. Two topics:
Raid Resetting every 3 days.
40 player Raids.
Raid Resetting every 3 days:
Pros -
- More loot chances
- Experience the raid more often
- More to do during the week
Cons -
- Variable Raid days
- Less Casual as raids get longer
- Burnout
My Take:
I would prefer going back to weekly resets. Makes it easier to schedule and less time trying to organize (especially when trying to PUG), especially since I play other versions of the game. I also play several alts, so this is further exacerbated (I would like to experience as many classes/specs as possible). Playing the same raid, while very fun at the start, does contribute to very fast burnout. Yes, I could just not raid every reset, but that’s besides the point and I likely would not. It’s more likely that I would just stop playing SoD altogether.
With how short each phase is, I would recommend increasing the loot drop rate to compensate the reduced amount or raids you can do per phase.
40 man raids
Pros -
- Keeps with the classic theme
- ???
Cons -
- Setup requirements
- Less intimate
- Not casual friendly
- Less comfortable environment
My Take:
I would not participate in a 40 man raid. It’s too much commitment. It takes too long to get into a 40 man raid or setup a 40 man raid. It would require a lot more people outside of my group of friends and as I mentioned above, I have multiple alts, so this would make it very hard to play them all in a 40 man raid while playing other versions of WoW. With this being a seasonal event, having 40 man raids feels out of place.
My recommendation is to keep the raids, but reduce the amount of people required to do it to 10, maybe 20. Or even introduce flex raids.
I understand people may have differing opinions and may feel very strongly about it, but please keep conversations civil and constructive.
I disagree with your 40 man cons.
I enjoy setting up and running 40 mans. Find someone to run your raid that enjoys it.
I mean how is that? You’re still running with 40 guild mates you’ve been friends with for a while.
Yes they are. All vanilla raids are easy. If you join a guild thats above your skill level or more hardcore than you want to be thats on you. As an experienced raid leader about half the raid is usually casual being carried by the other half which pump.
- Less comfortable environment
Thats just a matter of opinion more than a con. I love 40 man environments.
This is an interesting take. I feel as though there’s a massive difference in time between being able to consistently schedule groups and pugging.
Some people might say that they don’t have time to schedule raids, but in reality they are also probably spending more than double the time raiding than people who schedule their raid time spend, due to lack of efficacy of finding or filling groups.
I think this, low key, is quite possibly the biggest draw of the GDKP loot system, but I don’t wish to turn this thread into a discussion about the pros/cons of various loot systems.
The point:
- 3 day lockouts make the raid difficult to schedule for
- 10 man, 3-day lockouts of a 30 minute instance make the raid somewhat of a joke to try to schedule for (not really, but kind of actually)
This means that it feels frustrating trying to set up a guild community around raiding when it also feels like the devs have intentionally set up a system to work against people trying to organize structured, scheduled community groups.
I’d be curious what sorts of schedules and recruiting systems people have set up for their guilds, and if they’ve found ways that work well given the current sets of constraints.
I don’t see how this can be true given that SoD has only started and only has 10-man raids. Unless you’re saying you have a Classic 40 man raid that all decided to play SoD, in which case, I find this case to be in the extreme minority. (Also, congrats on maintaining 40 friends! I sure as heck don’t have that many friends that play the same game).
Currently, Retail is 20 man raids (for Mythic) and only a few people have come over to SoD. WotLK is maybe 25? I don’t remember.
This would then mean I would have to join a guild of people that I don’t know to do a 40 man raid for seasonal content. Just something I am not interested in. This sentiment is echoed across my group of friends that play SoD as well.
I am not fond of the idea of carrying half the raid group.
Theres more than 40 people in my guild and I dont just do bfd with them. Do you only raid log or something?
