Running an RX 580, AMD FX 6300 and 16gb of memory. Any ideas where the bottleneck on these relatively old parts would be for 30-man raiding? It can handle 20-man raids no problem, with settings on 7 or 8. I have literally everything turned down as low as it can go, running dx 11, only projected textures turned on, and in any 30-man fight where there is an add phase or excessive spell effects my game locks up and crashes. I just upgraded from a 1050 ti and it helped somewhat (sun king works, inerva and council don’t for some reason).
You need a new CPU. This game is heavily CPU bound, and the FX6300 is really long in the tooth.
Makes sense, it’s not even the minimum requirement. Thank you.
Yea you’ll need to upgrade the CPU/Motherboard/RAM.
Yeah I think I was just surprised that a 6 core 3.5 ghz processor couldn’t do what a 2 core 2.5 did 10 yrs ago. Guess they’ve really beefed the engine up over the years.
Honestly, the FX series of CPUs were really just underpowered.
What kind of budget do you have?
Was hoping to grab both the board and CPU upgrade for <500 if possible. I was leaning toward an fx 8350 and the am4 board I’ll have to get would still give me some room to grow.
It’s not really a 6 core processor - it functions more like a 3 core with hyperthreading as far as Windows is concerned.
Also, to put it in perspective, at the same frequency, a first generation Ryzen from 2017 was 52% faster than the FX series. And the current generation of Ryzen processors are about 50%+ faster than the first generation of Ryzen processors.
Don’t spend any more money on that platform. Moving to an FX8350 won’t really improve your performance.
Cheap CPU/mobo/RAM upgrade that will do well in WoW:

Way below your $500 budget and will be a noticeable improvement. Like, it is basically 2017’s i7-7700k level performance.
I did a presentation at work on Moore’s Law: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11fCSzbd7jOD_ZI_Eb_ys35lLGpCBsGOYrIXWSvhoYYA/edit?usp=sharing
As you can see, that FX-6300 is a pretty bad CPU. Less powerful than AMD’s 2009 CPU in every aspect including single core. By contrast, upgrading to a Ryzen 5 5600x would increase your single core performance (important for WoW) by 3x and multicore by almost 6x.
