Raid mount questions

For all raid mount drops, is it better to do them solo or do I have same chance if I do it with like 8 guildies?

some mounts has a % increases with more players
and if i recall mounts can not be traded from raid drops

do the one that has no % increases on players solo

How do I know which are this?

Just check out a solo mount farming guide. I’m sure they specify which ones are worth farming for

Ok so like the legion raids. Let’s say I have 2 toons on separate accounts. Am I better off to do them 1 at a time or both at same time(they are on same bnet account)

I imagine its better to do them sepparately. I’m not sure how Legion works, but most legacy raids will drop more pieces for an individual than for a group.

I’m not a raid farmer though. Somebody else can probably weigh in better than I

Smoldering Ember Wyrm

Aerial Unit R-21/X

are not raids but dungeons
raid ones have a % rate
these have a increase drop rate with more players

The only mount I know of off the top of my head with an “increased” drop rate is the Emberwyrm mount in the Legion version of Karazhan. I say increased because if you run it solo and do the requirements for the mount then you have 20% chance to get the mount to drop BUT if you run it with 4 other people that have the mount then it’s 100% drop chance to you. This scales according to group size and/or if the other people in the group have the mount already.

For other mounts the usual drop rate is 1%. What that means though, no matter how many times you run it for the mount your chance is always 1%. So for raid mounts your best bet it to have an “army” of alts that can run it each week until you get it drop.

Ok so if I have 2 characters logged in, my chances to get a raid mount drop is better running then one at a time to kill the boss or running them together?

So I guess what I am asking is, is the 1% chance rate for a mount drop per kill to drop one, or is it 1% per person that kills it? So theoretically 2 could drop?

Hope that makes sense.

For anything prior to Legion, you’ll have to run each character separately. Starting with Legion, mount drops became personal loot so you can save time running multiple characters at a time without hurting your chances.

In most cases you get one chance, per toon, per week to get a raid/dungeon mount. Some can be obtained from multiple difficulties so I’m excluding those. The only way to speed up acquisition is by running multiple toons. Each one you run though will have that same 1% chance, each time.

Damn. So if I have 5 accounts logged in on one bnet account, going for Molten Core mount in Legion, I should run all 5 at once to save time and my chances are the same as if I killed the boss 1 at a time solo with each one?

You could hotbox an entire 40 man raid and each of those 40 toons would each get the same 1% chance, per lockout.

Ok. So theoretically I could get 40 molten core mounts in one kill. Obviously that won’t happen but theoretically it could. Thank you for the info

If that happens, go buy a lottery ticket.

Sorry, and last question, that is only for Legion and BFA raids and mythic dungeons?

All raid/dungeon mounts unless they have a higher drop rate but the acquisition remains the same. Your chance is the chance per toon, per lockout.

Very generally speaking, anything before Legion you’ll want to run your characters through individually because they don’t use personal loot even for mount drops.

Starting with Legion, most mount drops became personal loot and so you can run multiple characters at once to save time.

And you are certain on this? Kruggs said that isn’t correct and it’s all legacy raids. Just curious what the truth is since you both seem to know what you are talking about.

The distinction to be made is whether or not the mount drops use personal loot. If personal loot is in play, then every character present for the kill is able to potentially loot a mount. If there’s no personal loot, then the boss can only drop one mount at most no matter how many characters are present for the kill. For the most part, Legion is the divide here. There may be some exceptions in specific scenarios (I think non-guaranteed mounts that drop in dungeons use personal loot if they’re run via the Dungeon Finder, for example), but this is generally how it works.
