Raid Loot Drops

I understand that lowering the loot drop rates makes loot more meaningful. I agree with that aspect, however, there is a limit. I do NOT advocate for just giving loot away, and I think everyone should work for their gear.

But, there is a limit. For instance, clearing 5 bosses in heroic, not receiving a single piece of gear, get to the 6th boss, and receiving a damn BAG. Its insult on top of an injury. Players do not work hard all week to prepare for raids to get a dang bag at the end of it. The only thing saving SL right now is the vault.

Whats worse, is that its a 32 slot bag. I am a maxed tailor, I already have 32 slot bags. Heck, you can get 32 slot bags on the ah for a couple of thousand gold. Certainly, no loot would have been better than a bag. At least then the player would have felt optimistic about next weeks loot chances.

I know Ion “said” he is going to make boss kills more meaningful by adding something when you don’t get loot. However, if its anything but a system helping us gear, he can shove it.

I ran 8 bosses last week on my paladin, and 7 this week on my DH. I got no loot!!. I did however win a roll for a ring but that is considered welfare gear in my books. The person who made the decision to make loot this low to drop, is not a bright cookie. Blizz is about to lose a lot of customers because of it. People love to raid, and now you give them the lowest chance ever to get a piece of loot. Doing over 10 bosses and finally getting a piece of loot doesn’t make you appreciate it when you can just AFK grind honor and upgrade gear. Poor decision making!!!

I agree.

You know, I wasn’t even that aggravated about getting no loot, it happens. It was the bag dropping instead of loot that really frustrated me. Like many players similar to me, I put in the work to be a reliable and decent raider and I, to an extent, believe that we deserve meaningful loot drops. A 32 slot bag is not a meaningful drop, its a sign of laziness, lack of effort, and cheapness on blizz’s part.

A bag is just sad hahaha. Maybe to someone who likes to show it off or something because of the name but its wasted loot. Its just as bad as conduits dropping. People need real loot to feel like they won something. Running over a dozen bosses and getting no loot shouldn’t happen ever in any MMO. I played a lot of mmos and this game since vanilla and I have never seen such a poor drop rate. It was purposely done for whatever reason and the consequence of such bad decision making will be people leaving the game = loss in money. The community has spoken for weeks about this issue and it seems ignored. In the end, people will leave and eventually come back when things change I know I might but maybe I will try something else like FFXIV. I heard FFXIV listens to their community well.

Exactly.

Nothing makes a player feel rewarded more than meaningful loot for the effort they put into the game. No matter how blizz wants to spin it, you raid for meaningful upgrades. You run dungeons for meaningful upgrades. You pvp for meaningful upgrades. The whole game is based on working towards upgrading gear. Anyone who doesn’t recognize this and pushes the “just enjoy the game” is blind.

I did the Timewalking Quest on my Alt. Then, I went to Normal CN and looted the exact same item. At least do something about the unbelievably bad rng involved, if your incentive of lowering loot amount was that there is now “less rng” and we can “target” items that we wanted (which is not really true btw). Moreover, what even is the purpose of doing m+ anymore? Just to get one 226 item every week? I’m much better off just doing PvP right now, I can target the stats I want (to some extent) and I can upgrade the gear to Mythic ilvl.

There has to be some sort of Currency with a weekly cap (like Conquest) which lets you upgrade M+ Loot to a certain ilvl, based on a M+ bracket that you are in.

Yep. The time has come to focus only things with upgrades bc everything takes to dang long. Too little loot. So far as to now we collect quests and do weekly quests b4 we collect vault loot to insure we don’t get double the same loot. That should be enough of a sign that loot drops are horrible.

What feels the worst IMO is when you get some garbage off like, the first boss, then you know you’re getting squat off the next 9, when all you freakin’ need is off the last two. I got 213 legs with bad stats off heroic Shriekwing, won’t use them, can’t trade them. Then just nothing else for the rest of the raid.

Bring back bonus rolls, or a currency.

I hate when that happens, lol.

I always thought that was kinda silly. Not only are 32 slot bags the common norm from SL tailoring, they were also what you could get from BfA tailoring. Wasn’t the Ice Crown event bag from the rare 34 slots? So we got a better bag from a farmable rare than from a raid boss. Geeeeeee geeeeeeee.

To be fair, to my knowledge there is no “loot cooldown”. Your chances of getting loot are the same, even if you got loot on the previous boss. They’re just low chances. Sometimes it feels like you “burned your drop” on a bad item, but that’s not really how it works.

All in all, I completely agree. The way loot works now isn’t fun. PvE in WoW has always felt like it was about progressing your character in the content you do. Right now it feels like you have to progress your character using everything but raiding, just so you can raid. I enjoy the raids, but that lack of progression is something I’m feeling.

I think Blizzard saw how much people like Classic and figured, “Hey, people like Classic. Classic drops 2 pieces of loot per boss, so people must clearly like that too. We should do that in retail!”

I think they maybe lost sight of the fact that Classic content is much easier and the gearing requirements on content progression significantly less strict (unless you count resist requirements, which is generally farmable in other ways).

I think it was a bad move on Blizzard’s part. PvE really needs the currency system that Cata had so people can take control over their character progression.

I feel like we could maybe go back to something like, WoD loot rules. 20% drop increase per player. So for every 5 players you were guaranteed one piece of loot. Mythic would always drop 4 since it’s 20 people. Maybe cap it after 20 people so there’s no groups stacking 30 trying to split gear or trade it around.

I am glad to see so many people on my same page. I think we can mostly agree on a certain number of things.

  1. Meaningful loot drops. Bags are not meaningful loot drops.
  2. Ability to direct a character’s gearing. This is why pvp is so meaningful right now.
  3. Some sort of minimal “safety net” for gear drops.
I was reading an article we by one of the top raiding guilds and all four of them agreed raid gearing is abysmal. They said that the people who were backups were actually better geared than those who raided bc of pvp. That’s pretty sad, imo, when top raiding members have to step out of progression to pvp to get gear.

I feel that if blizz does not correct the issue with the next patch, they will loose many subscribers, especially pve’rs. I know i have a fam, job, and RL stuff to do outside of the game. So if it isn’t fixed soon ill just m+ for vault drops, renown, and weeklies then log off.

Feels bad man. Even more insulting are the 35 anima items. Even killing a world boss is more rewarding.

I primarily raid. It’s a long while since I played WoW so I don’t know how loot worked in the last couple expansions, but I’m really disappointed I can’t gear up raiding. The vault is too random and raid drops too scarce. I feel forced to run M+ but speed-running 5-mans has never really been my thing.

I used to hate the badge system they introduced in TBC. Compared to the awful RNG of the Vault, I’d welcome having it back.

Bumping this since I got one piece of gear going through an entire raid.

If gear was raid specific, there would be no way to actually gear for heroic much less mythic. .

The current raid drop ratio of 1 item per 5 people (20%) is the same as Wrath-WoD.

So I assume you felt raids dropped too little loot since basically forever?

It’s supposed to be bumped to 25%-30% now. I remain skeptical. No more re-roll or bonus rolls this expansion which you coughs forgot coughs to mention.

It’s 20%. 1 drop per 5 ratio.

4 drops for 20 man per boss.

25 mans of old dropped 5 and 10 man dropped 2. All 1 per 5 ratio.

Wrath and Cata had bonus rolls?

Interesting.

Did they also put an item off the raids loot table in a chest every week too? Chances at Deathbringer’s will out of a weekly vault?

It’s been advertised that blizzard increased boss drops by 33% since launch (outside of weapon tokens which are apparently different rolls then normal gear) I remain skeptical.

Wotlk was released in 2008. You aren’t even making any sense. There wasn’t a mythic difficulty until WoD. The game is completely different. Way to compare apples to pineapples.

Raids have been dropping loot based on size since its inception…

SL launched with a 15% loot drop rate (~1 per 7).

Increasing 15% by 33% (.15 x 1.33 = 20) increased it back to 20%.

Which is where it’s been for most of the entire games life.
