Here’s how you fix the Great Vault for progression raiding:
The Great Vault is insurance. It was created to offer M+ players choices so it wasn’t just a roll of the dice on that ONE item in their weekly chest.
Raiding’s Great Vault needs to be similar insurance, but that requires a different approach.
You kill bosses, you get “Vault Points”. You pay Vault Points to unlock boxes in the Great Vault. (Again, this is for RAIDING ONLY.) And the boxes have exponentially increasing unlock prices, so you get a lot more out of unlocking 1 or 2 boxes per week for 10 weeks than spending the same points to unlock 3 (or even 4, if that’s a thing) in 1 week.
The point of this is that, while you’re extending, and therefore killing NO bosses, you spend those Great Vault points you’ve been accumulating all tier, to keep the loot flow coming in at 1 or 2 boxes a week when you’re on extend and aren’t getting points anymore.
I thought the purpose of LFR was to give everyone an opportunity to experience raid content, not personal progression? Yes, you have a chance to get better gear. But the gear itself isn’t great to begin with. Last season, it took me roughly two weeks to invalidate any reason to do any content above mythic 2+ if gear was my primary concern. (Note: This character I’m posting on, I started playing near the beginning of February, so I missed the majority of season 1. And the last time I played WoW was… Legion?)
Now with season 2, I have no reason to do Liberation of Undermine LFR, other than for fun/crests/chance at a mount. But once again, without doing anything other than maybe 5 2+ mythics, there is zero reason to do LFR if my primary concern is getting better gear.
ie: using raid bots, the highest dps piece is only +2,217 dps, which is a meaningless dps icrease. I’d see better doing at least mythic 2+
So once again, I could’ve sworn LFR was put into the game because it gave -everyone- an opportunity to experience the raid content. Because before, the only way to do it was with a guild.
The issue being that you can only do the raid on whatever difficulty you care about once a week. Doesn’t matter if it’s comparable in loot per minute while not locked if the other thing just never locks.
Assuming Raid is Farm Status is ignoring like the entire point of raiding. Most people are not in farm status because they’re in raid to progress in the first place… It’d just be nice if the loot from that process wasn’t actively worse than every other method of gearing (in terms of actually getting loot, not quality of the drop necessarily).
With the crest system, the #loot indeed needs to be buffed.
Or remove the crests. Let them be only for crafting.
3-4 weeks, and my guild only saw “2” house of cards, “1” eye of kezan…
All of this is absolutely true but I honestly don’t see how they can fix it beyond what we already have in place with the Great Vault of Disappointment. The real problem is the endless vertical progression. Take the necessity for that away and all of this ceases being a problem.
