Raid frames have long been one of the weakest elements of the default UI experience and unfortunately recent changes have done nothing to mitigate this.
The restrictions implemented in Midnight have destroyed many common, simple addons used to augment blizzard frames. We are talking customization such as changing a default icon to a number or coloured shape, or anchoring specific buffs to specific anchors. Or blacklisting useless debuffs/buffs (I don’t need to see bloodlust or sated on the whole raid, I don’t need to see an innervate I cast on myself.)
Frankly, the changes in this space that have now reached the live servers do not feel in line with what was communicated. The allowed raid frame addons appear heavily restricted compared to previous patches and offer only a modest improvement to the abhorrent default.
Having multiple buff effects on a single frame anchor with no ability to customize the order is an incredibly frustrating experience compared to what was so easily solved recently. For example, a druid player may have a target with lifebloom, regrowth, wild growth and 2 rejuvenations. Now a logical personal may assume the rejuvenations will be next to each other. No. They are not. It is a jumbled mess of hot effects that get even harder to discern when they get extended by effects like swiftmend or flourish. This is exacerbated by the new “buffed” rejuv icon which is identical whether the rejuv is the 1st or 2nd on the target (why is there no buffed germination rejuv icon?).
It is clear that default frames are not ready for the large scale UI overhaul that is being rushed and the changes do not match the communicated intent. Healing in the upcoming season is facing potentially the most dire state in memory and it will be a shame when Blizzard allows healers that may be well designed and fun be ruined by a crusade against addons. Particularly when addons for frames, whether replacements or augmentations felt far from playing the game for you, and instead offered desperately needed QOL.
