I’m just curious what our options are for improving the two features in my title.
Neither of the two provided addon replacements remotely compares to previous options.
I left when the patch came out, hoping the kinks would be ironed out. Overall, I’m enjoying the game, but I would like to know that this isn’t what we paid for, and that some improvements will be made.
Specific healing buffs will be editable with addons for raid frames. But you won’t have free reign to track what you want.
Damage meter you can change the aesthetic (Details still exists) but the only information available is exactly what the bliz meters display. So no cast data and no target data.
If you want more you have to log and upload it afterwards.
Addons will / are currently now able to see certain buffs applied by healers, so they can use that information to change how those buffs are displayed on your raid frames.
The same functionality as before pre-patch doesn’t exist. There’s specific buffs that Blizzard allows addons to see now but you’re still limited to boxy clusters of icons with a fraction of the same customizability that we used to have. Debuffs are relatively locked down yet - you can display again clusters of icons but no significant control over them other than very basic sorting from what i’ve seen (like by name for instance) - what Blizz believes you need is what you get and thats it.
Damage meters you can get to look like they used to - Details still works, but again there’s harsh limitations as to what data you get and when you get it (ie. no seeing what spells someone has used mid-combat)
Personally i’m peacing out in Midnight and keeping an eye to wowhead and forums - see if Blizz lets us be adults in the future and have some say in what buffs we see and where they appear on our frames.
You nailed my issue with raid frames in this statement.
It’s really bad.
I was healing an epic last night, it was awful. I just went balance until I figured something out.
Dispelling the right thing at the right time is important, and the management of debuffs feels bad. I was hoping that after such a long prepatch, there would be a solution/compromise.
The pacing feels fun, new expansion and new things to do feel fun, but when that settles this needs to be resolved.
It sounds like if I install details I’ll get the minimum I’m looking for so thanks for the tips.
Not being able to see my biggest hit on damage meter is what annoys me the most. Like “oh that crit was big….let me scroll through my combat log to find it” instead of just easily seeing it with details or something in the past
Blizzard has point blank said they want players to have access to combat data, just not during combat.
Logging is a baseline part of the game. Blizzard can remove it if they want to, and they instead have done the opposite and taken the time to reaffirm their commitment to keeping it.
I use Danders for my party frames. I am able to customize the size, and best of all, I am able to make the debuffs nice & BIG, just the way I need them.
That’s the good news.
The bad news is that lots of the debuffs that show up are NOT dispellable by me, even though I have that box checked in the Blizzard Options. Maybe there is a conflict between Blizzard commands and Danders, I dunno.
I’m confident that blizzard will make the correct decision here and remove combat logging because it gives players the unfair advantage that allows them to exploit raid and dungeon encounters with information that cannot be discerned by the human eye.
