Raid design eats up too much time

These are the steps involved and their negatives:

  1. Forming the group – five mins to over an hour spent for the raid to form and for every player to arrive at the target.

  2. Wipe – players will often leave… return to step 1. Or, the raid kills the target, move to step 4.

  3. Progress is being made, but the raid continually wipes. return to step 2.

  4. You kill a raid boss and the raid moves to the next boss. Or, a few players leave, return to step 1.

Oftentimes a raid will only get 1-2 pulls in per hour due to those steps… Oftentimes those raids fall apart without ever getting a kill.
This drastically lowers the enjoyment of raiding

I think this game needs a better queuing system. If instead of selecting a raid/difficulty and look for a group with a note on where they’re at, why not upgrade the queue system with checkboxes for each individual boss & for the difficulties desired for each of them, for players searching for boss kills?

It also wouldn’t hurt to make it an automated system kind of like LFR where players are automatically chosen and teleported to the raid; just to save time because players often cherry-pick players based on their experience which leads to lots of time wasted. I have something to say about that later in this post

If not the automated player selection, then can we get auto-summoned to the raid group when they’re out of combat atleast? Just to eliminate the massive amounts of downtime that raids encounter.

So with regards to players cherry picking players for how far they’ve progressed in the raid: why not just make the lowest unfinished difficulty the prerequisite for the subsequent difficulty so that we all know the encounter walking into it at any difficulty (minus one or two steps)!? One of the biggest complaints in a raid is people not knowing a mechanic and therefore wiping to it repeatedly. This can eat up lots of time for raids. So why not make LFR the prerequisite for Normal difficulty? Then Normal the prerequisite for Heroic and the same for Mythic difficulty?

Also, can we save loot rolls? So sometimes we’re unable to secure a kill on a specific difficulty but, at the same time, we want to be sure that we maximize our loot per week. So we’re often faced with a choice: do I join a normal/heroic group and get kills for lesser gear, or wait for a heroic/mythic group?

What if instead we had the option (assuming that raids won’t get Mythic + ridiculousness with regards to loot,) what if we had the option to save a loot roll until desired!? So, for example, a player could kill a boss on normal, heroic and realize that a mythic kill is out of the question for that week, so they then choose to roll for heroic loot for that specific boss kill.

^ This would free us up to have the option to join any raid that we want to join.

Raiding is essentially built for guilds, pugging them is just impossible.

You just described why I refuse to pug raids

Advantages to puggin in raid, finding a group that is on the specific boss you want and being able to drop out of miserable experiences.

Disadvantages, it’s a pug and pugging is the worst way to experience content in every version.

This system already exists. It’s often referred too as a guild.

If you can find yourself a consistent group of people to play with, your experience will definitely change. What you describe sounds very pug-like, and I wouldn’t wish that on anybody…

I think they could make raids more accessible to everyone but they’d have to quit being stubborn to change

Even in a guild it takes too much time.

How long do you want it to take? It only takes my guild 10-15 minutes to get the show on the road.

I’m not talking about starting the raid.
I’m talking about the whole process of raiding.

Trash, wiping, running ridiculous distances when ressing, spending time to farm raw materials for consumables. Too much time is spent on not fighting bosses.

I’m not a fan of either but it’s just how PvE content goes unfortunately. I will say killing a boss after a few nasty wipes feels amazing, though.

Soulstone a healer and get a fat mass rez where you wiped.

Can also just buy them. Not economically efficient, but certainly time-efficient.

I agree to some extent. The trash in SoFO isn’t awful, just a few tricky parts and it’s no Hyjal.

Wow definitely needs to add a better summoning system to raids 100%.
