Raid BIS and knowledge of future raids ruined WoW?

So I’m currently in a guild that does Loot Council for loot distribution. This is not a post about fair vs unfair, but more about fun vs unfun and bis + knowledge of future loot ruining excitement and lowering the # of items that certain classes can get (mainly healers) until X phase.

I’ll use a specific item as an example, take “Choker of the Firelord” (from Rag).

This neck piece is basically listed as BIS for all caster classes during Phase2 (mages, locks, priests, druid, shaman, pally). But because of future knowledge about items that will replace this item for healing classes, this item is not even an option and people don’t even think about handing out this item to healers.

The problem is that most items for healers that are BIS during X phases share a slot with dps classes.

This creates a situation where healers are denied loot (outside of class loot) for months (because each phase will last months) and possibly even more time, if certain items don’t ever drop, in future raid encounters.

Basically nowadays, people are too concerned about getting marginal improvements from one piece of gear to the next one, just because is BIS for X number of phases, instead of allowing everybody to share the loot just because of the time invested in the game.

Not sure if this is the case in every realm and/or guild, but in my current guild, healers (more specifically priests) won’t really get any gear (outside of 1-2 items) from raiding until phase 5+.

Is this the case in other realms and guilds? Is this the current mentally of WoW classic players and , if so, has knowledge of future loot, in a way, ruined WoW classic for certain classes.

Time to find a new guild m8

My friends and I laugh about this all the time, the WoW mentality is either BIS or bust in almost every aspect of the game. It’s very “classic” but possibly the worst thing about the WoW community in general.

How is upgrading from animated chain necklace to choker of the firelord not a marginal upgrade for a healer while it is INSANE for a DPS caster?

As a priest, I was stuck with a necklace from RFD until animated chain neck dropped (51 UD strath runs btw) because it is so similar.

Are you chasing purple? Because I doubt you can feel a tangible difference between the two while healing.

also because you can grab a blue version of it in strat.

in other word: major upgrade for every DPS caster… negligeable sidegrade for healers… you’d be stupid to let any healer roll/bid on that before all the DPS have theirs

what?

the tier piece are yours, (obviously). half the T1 set is decent, most of the T2 is decent.

Benediction is a freebie, same a rhok’delar for hunters.

ring-wise you’ll compete for the same ring as every other healer ( cauterizing band / elementium ring).

Are you actually upset about choker going to caster dps over healers? I’m guessing you just love the color purple and can’t stand having blue in your gearset or something?

I thought hunters complaining about not getting quickstrike were bad but this is a whole other level.

Thinking that it is a lot of this for the OP…

it’s classic. what part of reintroducing a 15yr old game wasn’t understood?

Priests actually have it the best of all the healers. The only contested item that they really want is the rings.
Pallys want MiC, Mageblade, Wildgrowth, and more that are contested by many more players.
Only loot hungry healers want Choker. There is a blue that is almost exactly the same.

Don’t you want your guild to progress as quickly as possible? You can get 7 sta 6 spi +33 healing in a dungeon… it’s a small upgrade for you vs a huge upgrade for an offensive caster. To me it’s more about that than it is future loot.

Then the comments go to focus on the one item he chose as an example.

A prime example of the community of WoW Classic being toxic.

If the best example he could think of was a terrible example… then it doesnt seem like much of a problem.

I would never even roll on this as a healer—it belongs to DPS.

Now if it’s gonna get DE’d…sure I will soak it up. But Animated Chain Necklace is honestly just as good for a healer. Don’t let the color purple fool you, my friend. It might technically be BiS for healer…but it seems way more practical to give it to a DPS spot. The “Optional” BiS gear they have listed or “2nd” BiS gear is good enough to still clear content with.

I mean. Mageblade would be a way better example.

It’s absolutely killer for pallies and… every other caster DPS.

Came here to point this out. One of our resto druids made a stink about being denied this item so we could gear out a mage. Basically, we had to say, “It’s not our fault you raid log and expect to have better gear magically.” A few Strat runs and you’d be good to go.

Why should a healer get choker when you can literally get animated chain necklace from strat UD? Lmfao

Progression is a lie dps players use to deny loot to hybrids. There is no progression. There is nothing harder to beat right now and putting that neck on a healer instead of a dps is not going make or break a fight.

Some items are obviously a larger upgrade for some classes than others. But I dont care really, an upgrade is an upgrade.

Better example, but still not a great one;

10 healing is not worth nearly as much as 27 damage.
