I’m seeing a lot of really awful and poorly thought out arguments being made over Ragnaros being killed recently, mostly by those who are attempting to disparage Classic because I guess they have a bone to pick with classic, because lately the tribalism has just been ridiculously insane, I get it. It’s not as though the hate in either direction is unwarranted, I’m not here to preach one over the other, but I’m going to lay out some facts right here.
- This guild has been practicing this exact power level --> Rag kill essentially in a hyperbolic time chamber for years . They use their own private server sandboxes to facilitate this training, and they have perfected literally every single moment to moment circumstance that can occur, and have done the math and put in the time to internalize this process over the course of a decade. This is the equivalent of how fast Method would kill Mythic EP if they had practiced it for 5 years prior.
TLDR; no experienced Classic player was surprised at this. The work they have put in to this kill is vastly more than just the 6 days since Classic launch .
- Only a minority of folks who have very vague memories of struggling in vanilla believe T1 content to have actually been difficult .
The fact of the matter is no informed Classic player is or ever was arguing that Molten Core would have a long shelf life, or even that any of the raiding content up through Naxx was vastly superior in difficulty to Mythic raiding of today.
What we argue, is that the experience as a whole is more fulfilling, and there is challenge to be had in activities outside of raiding. Mythic+ is also challenging but that didn’t exist in Classic, obviously.
I would also like you to consider the fact that Method, the best guild in the world in retail , has not even cracked the MC front door yet. They lost both the WF 60 and the WF Rag kill to “no names”. Does that mean Classic is harder than BFA on the raid front? Absolutely not. Does that not sort of say something about how most of this comes down to practice and preparation, though? “Skill” is not really all there is to this, so I’d like you to try and look inward before you immediately jump to this conclusion that “Oh because of this, Classic clearly takes 0 skill, and retail takes all the skill”. Skill can take many forms, and the guilds that achieved this executed theirs in their own way, while Method for example continues to execute theirs in their own way on retail. Clearly, their skill at this particular activity was outmatched in this regard. It’s not that they couldn’t ever reach that level, but they were out of their league in this sport.
All in all, Ragnaros being dead in the first week says just about nothing about Classic’s staying power, because nobody who has a clue actually hinged their enjoyment of Classic on the raid boss difficulty. It’s so much more than that, and the retail players insistence on focusing specifically on the bosses and how quick or easy they are to kill is almost exactly the reason why so many of us have come to loathe retail…it doesn’t mean retail is bad…it’s just a different game with a different set of expectations and goals. It’s not about the raid difficulty. It’s not about the raid difficulty. It’s not about the raid difficulty . Am I getting through?
Your anecdotes of arguing with randomposter#6326 about how Molten Core was going to kick everyone’s butt and Rag would live for months are irrelevant here.
