Here’s a radical concept to unify the Shaman class:
- Make Enhancement Intelligence based instead of Agility based.
Yes, that means our melee strikes would be pitiful, but most of the damage we do is spell damage anyway. Our melee attacks would be reduced to just resource generators for insta-casting our spells (current Maelstrom design), and our primary damage would come from the spells.
This would simplify gearing and create a unified theme across all Shaman specs. It might even help simplify the design and maintenance of the class.
Off course, to do this, we would need some one-hand Int weapons to become usable in the off hand.
Thoughts?
nah, this doesn’t really accomplish anything.
It’s just not needed.
Spells are already scaling off of attack power/agility.
And this would basically kill physical builds.
If they instead make everything scale with intellect i don’t see the point anymore.

The only way this would “simplify gearing” is that we’d be able to use the same weapons across Enhancement with Ele/Resto. Meanwhile, it would radically change up our trinket options, as ALL melee trinkets suddenly leave our loot tables, and we’re forced to run spell DPS trinkets instead which are often designed specifically for being at range from your target.
All other gear already switches between Agi and Int based which spec you’re in, so switching Enhancement to Int would change literally nothing for that.
Yea, and increase the range on those “spell” damage abilities by 5 yards!!!
But seriously, enhancement is the worse when it comes to dealing with CC. Literally every CC shuts us down including silence for godsakes. Imagine if hunters had all their attacks in schools of magic instead of being lucky with their big attacks being physical. I’ve spent entire pvp fights in CC chains.

You know our spell damage is basically 1 to 1 with our attack power right?
It was a long day at work man, thanks for that laugh.

What does enh using agil even have to do with ele and resto? Agil and int aren’t even themes of the class. How much more can blizz simplify gear? The primary stats already change based on your spec, and all 3 specs like different secondaries. This probably just complicates enh design, leave the poor enhances alone man what did they do to you?
you know that outside of your weapons/trinkets all of your gears swaps back and forth from int and agility depending on your spec right?
