I am Brazilian, my country suffered for hundreds of years by colonialism (slavery and theft of natural resources) by European countries, which still reflect part of the poverty we have here today.
I come here because I am getting tired of the behavior of a very representative portion of US server players. I have often been called “Brazilian Monkey”, or suffered from several other forms of prejudice in the game, simply because I am from a Brazilian server.
I would like to really understand what causes this sense of superiority on the part of this group of players, who think that because they are in a first world country, which participated and participates in the destruction / invasion / war in several other countries in the world, has in relation others.
I’m tired of reporting to blizzard this type of behavior. Weeks ago, the assassination of George Floyd moved the whole world for the brutality that occurred and the racism implicit in that scene. What has been happening at WOW is a part of that absurd feeling of superiority.
In fact, I am waiting for the day when Blizzard will take a position to restrain this type of behavior, because if it were in Brazil, I guarantee that whoever had said absurd things like that would be responding in court for the crime of racism.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re tired of it. There’s literally nothing I, or anyone else here can do for you. Report the player, ignore them, and move on. Reports are looked at, but you won’t be notified if the offending person was silenced/banned, etc.
Injecting your political viewpoints into the discussion do you no favors.
The only problems I have ever seen with this involves language barriers. Sometimes you get grouped with people who don’t speak English which can be issues sometimes.
i dont know if it has to do with race, people on usa servers see someone from the south amercian servers and are instantly unhappy. There is a huge sterotype that anyone on the latin american servers are automatically bad at the game and no matter what they or or themselves do it will never change. So people rather you leave and become hostile when you don’t.
I’m wary of people from those servers but i’m not hostile.
This does not just happen with WoW. I remember when I played a lot of Asian MMOs (over 15 years ago) and people would not group with someone with BR in front or behind their name. I think people are just less forgiving in games and it does not help if you cannot communicate.
This is the main issue, the second issue is that every time I have run into a language barrier… the brazillian players become ultra toxic and make no attempt to understand what is going wrong (even in the few times I have resorted to google translate to try and explain the mechanics) I just get a “JAJAJAJAJA” and then a ninja pull by the brazillian player. Maybe if the majority of brazillian players didn’t behave so toxicly in pugs… they wouldn’t get toxic comments in return…
Edit: Also forgot, I once made a toon on brazillian servers to try and farm poseidus. Once the brazillian players found out I don’t speak portugese they lobbed all sorts of racist stuff at me so lets not pretend this is one sided.
