It’s almost like WoW Vanilla and WoW TBC were designed in an age where people didn’t obsess over every minute detail on a 3rd party website or spend more time looking at a spreadsheet than playing the actual game huh?
Nothing is stopping anyone from playing the races they want to play except themselves. It’s a game that’s over 15 years old don’t get grey hair over it.
Min-maxing is just a phrase. What we’re really talking about here are significant advantages in PvP. It causes all sorts of issues, faction imbalances just to name one. You guys are right that no one is forcing you to play another race, but intentionally gimping yourself just so you can play what you want to play is not a good way to design a game. It doesn’t have anything to do with min-max culture. When I made my character back in vanilla I remember looking at the racials when I was picking my race. They take the fantasy out of the rpg and make it all about min-maxing which is what you seem to be against.
Do you know how I decided? “Pally seems nice.” notices they’re alliance only. looks at shaved ape vs epic beard. makes male Dwarf pally.
It was cata before we got an actually decent throughput racial.

Except your point of racial causing min maxing goes out the window when you see… In retail mecha gnomes and regular gnomes pull highest DPS on multiple classes by almost 200 because of their weird racials. yet we see top end guilds not run all gnome guilds.
People play and continue to play Orc Warlock despite them not having that good of racial. It’s very very very doubtful anyone here is playing at such a level that they have not only outgeared their competition but then outplays them. Yes theoretically if you have equal end game gear and raid conditions on a patchwork fight another race might out dps you by 100 dps . wow! but there’s so many layers before something like that happens.

That’s fine dude. But let me ask you this. If the racial was Human paladins get +50% holy damage and Dwarves get +50% healing how would you feel about that? The game shouldn’t compel you to play something you don’t want to play. And your threshold might be different than someone else’s. But just because it would take a lot for you to change races doesn’t mean it’s a good system.
Do you know the difference between Dwarf and human racials in vanilla? I have never cared about pvp. I “intentionally gimped” myself from character creation. I knew what the differences were. I didn’t care. I wanted to be a Dwarf. And I was.
That’s definitely true. It’s more about the pressure it puts on the player. If you haven’t even clicked “Create Character” yet and you’re already at a disadvantage it doesn’t feel good. Now if you could attain other racials that would be fine, but you can’t. It’s the fact that you are permanently at a disadvantage.

Because your post was you making ridiculous over exaggerations that would never happen. Most racials are tiny differences. And you have to resort to hyperbole to try to make any point at all.
Yes but that IS the point though. If the system can compel YOU then you should be able to understand that it compels other people who have a higher sensitivity to character strength.

I actually stopped playing that toon as a main when the WoD changes to character models happened. I almost quit wow for good. One of the main reasons I downloaded classic at all initially is so I could remake him and see him as he’s supposed to be. I give not a single kek about racials. His old beard though? One of the main reasons I continued to play even when blizz pissed me off.

Yep. the joy of being an elf-phile. I don’t care what the bonuses are. Its an elf with a bow. Nuff said. If crap bonuses…its still be elf + bow.
Like with classic BE hunter. Unless something has gone wrong I should not be surrounded to say thank the well I have this aoe silence. Barring pet aggro dropping nothing should be in range anyway.
I’ve always wished they were gone. I just think the game would be way more enjoyable for everyone if you could actually pick the race you thought was cool without being penalized for it. Not even mentioning how bad it feels to fight someone with a race that directly counters your class.
