Now, I know a LOT of people are going to disagree. They will say, “The game is fine as is” or “You should go play X, obviously this is not the game for you”. They’d be wrong. I sit in a group with others like me who want more options in this game. I know, I can already hear it, “BUT… BUT… MY LORE!” or “it would destroy my immersion!”. We have people tanking in Murloc onesies. So how about we all agree there is a difference between “The Lore” and “The Gameplay”.
After all, we are still just “some random adventurer” according to the experts on this forum and the actual “Lore champion commander” is a placeholder that we borrow for cutscenes. I mean, let’s face it. We’ve taken down gods in this game, yet we still rummage for poop cause some Goblin or Human is too lazy to do it themselves. So, since we are basically NOBODYS anyway, and our presence doesn’t even touch the Lore, Gameplay can carry its own mantle.
I know, I know. We cannot be the exceptions to the rules. Ah, but hang on! There are already LORE accepted exceptions to the rules:
- Sir Zeliek is a Forsaken Paladin. This is evidenced by his abilities.
- Highlord Demitrian is a Human Shaman
- Mordvigbjorn is a Vrykul (big human) Druid
- Forsaken Priests can use Holy powers without killing themselves
- High Botanist Freywinn is a Blood Elf Druid with Tree form and Tranquility
- Nerus Moonfang is a Night Elf Paladin
- Shadow hunters and Witch doctors exist for Trolls, just not playable
Of course this list could go on and on as all of these are exceptions to the rules, just like the player characters in the game. We are not the heroes they claim us to be. Let’s face it, how many paladins did you see with the title HighLord, and the Ashbringer during Legion? Much like the Highlander, only one exists in the Lore, not the gameplay. So for GAMEPLAY’S sake, here we go.
I threw together some basics of what each might look like, and how they might come to learn the class. We’ve already proven there are plenty of exceptions in the game, and have also proven we are little more than exceptions ourselves since our specific characters do not exist in the Lore, but the Lore has NPCs who already violate the rules.
Paladins
Anyone can be a Paladin. They just have to believe in themselves, attend some church time (which no player character does), and channel the Light through years of practice. Since none of our characters are children, it is safe to assume we already put in our 3-5 years of learning.
Druids
Being in touch with nature is possible for anyone, including the Undead who live in one of the greenest places on Azeroth. Also, when learning a new class, it is possible to have that class start in another race’s starting zone so it makes more sense with learning, or do like they always do, train some NPCs and start you in your own zone.
Shamans
Making deals with the elements is not hard, when someone shows you how. We already proved there is a Human shaman in the game, and other non-playable races like murlocs and ogres have the same ability to make deals. Murlocs don’t even speak common or orcish, so I am guessing the elements will make a deal with anyone.
Evokers
The newest class to join the game. We’ve been bending over backward for Dracthyr, so it is time they bent over backward to return the favor. We’ve saved their home, helped their people, and stopped a mediocre threat. The least they can do is show us how they sling those spells, and maybe a little help with surging forward since flight is not really an option.
Now, if you made it this far… and actually read what was shared, it might help with what you are about to type out. Lore and Gameplay are two very different things. But just to make sure we are on the same page:
- Murloc rompers you can tank in
- Motorcycles
- Pokemon Pets
- Toys that do everything including glamor our race
- A pink pony mount
- Tons of clanky tech
- Engineering toy that makes me 10ft tall, and another than makes me 12 inches tall
So there you have it. My full blown breakdown of why Race / Class unlocks don’t even touch the Lore but could massively improve enjoyment in the game allowing people to finally play their favorite race, with their favorite class. Could lead to paid race changes, potentially people re-subbing, and some fun for those who have been asking for years. After all, if we are not the Hero in the Lore, we can be the Hero in our own gameplay. We’re the exceptions… not the rules.
