So in the past they’ve given extra classes to already known races.
I would love to see some added classes, examples:
Human druid
Draenei rogue
Gnome paladin
Worgen monk
Void elf paladin
Blood elf druid
Undead druid
Highmountain Tauren paladin
I would love to hear from the rest of the community on class races you wish were available.
I think the selection is pretty good as-is, honestly. But I certainly wouldn’t complain about another Pandaren option. Preferably druids… or even paladins. But anything would make me happy.
Same. I’m disappointed they didn’t talk about this at all considering it was a big point in Shadowlands near the end there. I don’t even care if some don’t thematically fit.
(if a gnome can be a priest, I have no idea why they can’t be a paladin)
I want gnome druids. Racial ability would be completely useless but idc. I want adorable but “deadly” forms. Red panda bear form, mongoose cat form, actual owl size boomkin.
We’ve seen pretty regularly that the main hubs of both factions (Orgrimmar and Stormwind) are major cultural melting pots now, meaning that we don’t need lore that’s like, “The vulpera are druids because they have this deep connection to a fox loa,” or whatever. All we need to say is, “These are the races with strong traditions in specific class fantasies. The other races learned from them.”
Example, using the vulpera. The vulpera don’t have a strong druidic presence as far as we can tell, but what they do have is a neighbor on their island who does and who considers them “part of their pack.” (This is a comment Gonk made to Talanji regarding the other species of Zandalar.) So, we don’t need the vulpera to have their own traditions. They learned from the same place as the zandalari. The loa.
In fact, we already have seen this justification used in-game. When Mists of Pandaria launched, it was canonically pandaren monks who taught the people of Azeroth how to be monks in the first place. Literally all of them. (This is why lorewise it’s weird that nightborne, highmountain tauren, and vulpera can be monks, but literally no one complains about this which is why I always get baffled when people bright up race fantasy as a reason why we shouldn’t open all races to all classes.)
We can’t even use the whole, “Different species on Azeroth age at different rates,” excuse anymore, because in at least one instance we know that’s not true. That Blood Elf orphan girl from The Burning Crusade, the one you bring all around Outland and Azeroth, appears in Warcraft: Dragonflight as an adult woman. It’s been 15 years and she was probably about 8 to 10 in her initial appearance, which implies elves reach adulthood at roughly the same rate as humans.
Rather than go through every race, I’m going to go and give small lore answers as to why some of the player races called out in this thread could be the class that “lore” says they can’t be.
Undead Druids: This one is super easy. We’ve seen in-game that the apocathary concoctions often cause those who drink them to mutate. So undead forsaken aren’t “druids” in the traditional sense. They assume abomination forms that happen to resemble different types of undead and use apocathery science to transform between them. For example, the undead “bear form” is basically Gluth’s model from Naxxramas. Their moonkin form could be a traditional abomination. Pretty easy, really.
Draenei / Lightforged Draenei / Tauren / Highmountain Tauren Rogues: This one gets called out a lot because people seem to think that hooves can’t be quiet. I’m no veterinarian, so I have no comment on that. What I do know, however, is that canonically a rogue’s Stealth isn’t mundane; it uses shadow magic to bend light and warp perception. That’s why a rogue can stealth and walk directly across a bright, sunny field in-game without being seen. This is further confirmed by the heavy use of shadow magic and shadow damage by the Subtly spec. So if the answer is magic, then whatever shadow magic obscures vision can also be used to conceal the sound of their hooves. Furthermore, there’s evidence in-game that this might not even be necessary, since all those races can be hunters and hunters have a Stealth in the camoflauge spell.
