Too many people pronounce it HERTH, when it is pronounced HARTH.
I can’t understand people who say it like that. It makes no logical sense.
The devs of Hearthstone have a video on youtube where they say it is pronounced HARTH, but you shouldn’t even need that.
If you say HERTH, do you pronounce the word heart as hurt? “I’m having a hurt attack!”
Just stop it already.

The Great Vowel Shift was a massive sound change affecting the long vowels of English during the fifteenth to eighteenth centuries . Basically, the long vowels shifted upwards; that is, a vowel that used to be pronounced in one place in the mouth would be pronounced in a different place, higher up in the mouth.
herthstone just rolls off the tongue better
more important question:
archmage
is it ark mage or arch mage?
It’s Arch if you had any schooling at all in your life.
Archbishop: A bishop of a higher rank, usually overseeing a larger area called an archdiocese.
Arch: This prefix signifies a higher level or authority in many contexts.
it’s “ARK” when the next letter is a vowel sound.
“architect” , “archive”
it’s “ARCH” when the next letter is a consonant sound
“archmage” , “archbishop” , “archnemisis” , “archrival”

What about gif? Is it gif or jif? O.o
The actual question is why does it spell “hearth” when it pronounces “harth” ?
Why is it spelt heart when it’s pronounced hart?

Another great question. Seems like you are getting on the right path.
of all the things people pronounce incorrectly in wow and that’s what you went with?
see also:
sepulcher (the “ch” is pronounced as a “k”)
anathema (should ann-ath-emma not ana-theme-a)
scholomance (it’s not “sholo” the “sch” is pronounced as in “scholastic” or “school” [because scholomance litterally just means magic school])
reagent (it’s re-agent, just ask your chemistry teacher)
shamen is not a thing, the plural of shaman is shamans

Ee-arth is the best way to show intelligence
The right path is harth.
Do your research and come back.
He’s right.
Also, reagent is pronounced reee-agent and not regent.
When you say it wrong you look foolish.
Also there are no “u’s” in color or armor. Also “tire” doesn’t have a y.
Thanks.
The path to understanding that kiddo.
To further add to frustration…
I’m a phonetic voice coach in real life, and this thread is littered with people totally screwing up the phonetic spelling of these words… Which is a pet peeve of MINE.
Frosstfire:
reee-agent
The way you wrote this implies REE-ah-gunt… ree-AYE-jint is what I think you mean.
an-AH-thuh-muh? Or an-ah-THEM-muh?
Phobowarrior:
scholomance (it’s not “sholo” the “sch” is pronounced as in “scholastic” or “school” [because scholomance litterally just means magic school])
reagent (it’s re-agent, just ask your chemistry teacher)
shamen is not a thing, the plural of shaman is shamans
SKOH-loh-mance or SKAW-law-mance?
Again, ree-AYE-jint.
SHAW-min or SHAH-min or SHAY-min?
There is actually. If you’re Canadian or British.
