I just read the article . The consumable now instead of opening flying account wide allows you to purchase Shadowlands Flying on your toons.
This is some udder BS
Looks around to make sure no Tauren herd that one

It requires expert riding skill, but Blizzard needed verbiage to delineate between the “approval/authorization” to fly in Shadowlands (the 9.1 token) and the “ability” to fly (purchasing the requisite riding skill.
If Blizzard adds an additional tier of riding skill, specifically for Shadowlands, well, that could be a bummer for sure.
When you click on the consumable link, it states this:
It requires riding skill of 225, which is not included. But should already be purchased by most toons.
This was done - most likely - so folks weren’t able to also use this to unlock 225 flying on every character on their account.
Trying to figure it out myself.
Did blizzard actually make this more complicated than it needed to be, lol?
I thought we just did the questline, do the hokey pokey and boom…account wide flight?
What’s the price, and is it for every character on the account?
man my mind goes right to garbage, lol.
Read this and the brain responded with “(derogatory profanity) Tokens”
You need this:
And in conjunction with this:
You can fly in Shadowlands
Wasn’t it Artisan before ?
I’m not sure, and I always get the tier names jacked up, so here’s the Wowhead article about riding
Pathfinder was a useless time gate. Now they are using time as a time gate. We want flying. Never stop complaining until they give it to us. Should be available right at level cap. Blizzard is a joke, this won’t change.
Why you torture us with this ?
Yea, it’s just not clear if consuming the item is the “purchasing” part, or if consuming the item ENABLES the purchasing part.
So, is it
or
Man, you’d have to max out your anima repository and hold onto 15k worth of tokens.
A bit of clarity on the purchase part would be nice.
It makes it sound like you buy something after unlocking it from the phrasing.
the buying part is you need to buy the flying skill and get flying in sl
you do not need to buy the skill again
The way I read your two sequential flying pathways, it’s neither.
Per the article - subject to the whims of Blizzard, of course! - the reward is the consumable, that then yields the player - whom has also purchased 225 riding skill (base flying) - to fly in Shadowlands on their account.
Upon completing a quest contained within the “The Last Sigil” storyline, you’ll be rewarded with Memories of Sunless Skies. This consumable item allows all characters on your account to purchase the Riding Skill needed to fly within the four main Shadowlands zones!
It should have been worded that with the “consumption of the consumable” named Memories of Sunless Skies, your account will now be able to fly in Shadowlands, provided the character you are playing in Shadowlands on also has the requisite riding skill (225).
The consumable Sunless Skies does not also train all characters on your account to 225 riding - which is level locked.
This. The consumable doesn’t give you the flying skill, just the allowance to use your existing flying skill in Shadowlands.
I’m curious what problem this convoluted implementation solves.
So instead of pathfinder we get…a new type of pathfinder using renown and covenant quests instead! Still takes just as long and isn’t out any sooner, but now we get to buy flying on all our toons!
Yup, that’s another way to read it as well. If it wasn’t for the fact that we had to buy, what was it, “Cold Wind Flying” or whatever it was back in the day of Wrath, etc., then it would have more readily projected that they’re talking about regular flying skill. But they do say “Riding Skill needed to fly within the four main Shadowlands zones” which MAY be Some Other riding skill than the normal ones.
You’re probably right, but it’s still badly worded.
Thing is . Does this mean each toon now has to purchase the flying skill to fly in Shadowlands when previous Pathfinders automatically opened it up for all toons going into the zones they were a part of ?
Sound like a way to gate alts to extend time played . Fine if a person has alts with plenty of gold per say but those that don’t look like they get shafted and those toons are grounded for a longer period.
