For the past three expansions, we’ve paraded around our disdain for pathfinder.
Now that pathfinder is gone and flying can be purchased after completing a covenant quest, people are complaining that there’s a cost associated with flying.
Pick one or the other and quit complaining. We don’t have a pathfinder and can buy flying - we got what we wanted. Take the W and move on.

Wait, you have to buy it now? I thought it just unlocked from renown?

There’s no cost. Further more, who was complaining?

so its 2 weeks now not 3 sweet
That link says the following:
“Upon completing a quest contained within the “The Last Sigil” storyline, you’ll be rewarded with Memories of Sunless Skies. This consumable item allows all characters on your account to purchase the Riding Skill needed to fly within the four main Shadowlands zones!“
Edit to add - I don’t particularly care if it’s something you buy or something earned. Just clarifying.

What exciting news!
I can’t buy it with all the gold I have. Rant… Rant…
Think of all those follow bots with no fingers…
I interpreted that to mean with the consumable item.

It does not list a cost. And I didn’t see anyone complaining. This seems to be a pre-emptive post.

Yeah, it’s not really clear. The way I read it is, once you’ve completed the quest and you’ve received that consumable reward & use it, you then can purchase the riding skill on other toons on your account.
Until there’s more info, it’s all just speculation.
What complaining about having to buy flying? All I see is complaining about how long 9.1 is taking.

Most posters on general discussion just want to rage about something, which is why you should take what most posters say with a grain of salt.

Will have to test it on the PTR. But it’s way too early for a post like this. No one was even really talking about it.
Yeah, no complaining here. I don’t care either way. This OP has a tendency to create threads like this.
Regardless of whether it lists a specific cost, it does say “purchase.” How it’s purchased or with what currency is anyone’s guess at this point. Better to wait for more info.

I mean… that would be an additional programing step: to use a consumable to unlock the ability to purchase an item. Usually when receiving tokens, they are used to exchange for items, therefore are consumable.
I can’t think of an instance that has been done with your interpretation, but perhaps I’m forgetting something?
However, as you say: time will tell.

I can’t either, but also not sure why they’d say “allows all characters on your account to purchase the Riding Skill needed to fly within the four main Shadowlands zones”
if it’s going to be a one-time use, cost-free consumable that opens account-wide flying.

I did think of something: The riding things. If I remember, you have to purchase items to get what you once had natively for the mount.
It was a nominal cost.
Perhaps they are following that sad blueprint?
Oh yeah, like the water walking thing? Perhaps. Not how I’d do it if I ran the world (of Warcraft), but whatever, lol.
