If you try a million times and are successfully only once then that is one better if you have never tried at all . That is the point.
The lottery is like that, I refer to it as the poor man’s tax.
Toxicity can unfortunately be found anywhere we socialize with other people. I don’t know why they’re toxic, what their motivation is…unfortunately they just are. Sometimes people have played the game so long they don’t realize that new players are picking it up all the time. And some people are just blamers.
You can’t control the toxic people, but you can control how you respond to them. If they are trying to get you upset, laughing at them can be the best approach
Except this isn’t lottery , this isn’t greed , this isn’t tax. Its an attempt to enable good behavior, it should be by default
People like to que into dungeons running multiple accounts. This slows down the dungeon pace for levelers or gear grinders. The tank probably assumed that your girlfriend was really your second account on follow.
Isn’t it? Desiring people to behave according to unspoken virtue? All the while we only heard one side of the story and many are running to the rescue. Or enabling the behavior. It is easier for them to control their emotions than for anyone to try to sway others. You can tell them “hey thats bad don’t do it: insert brief explanation” then get written off. What changed other than your time? Its like a hamster wheel really. I don’t have the time to chase after people and babysit them.
What is unspoken virtue are you talking about ? that we need to throw the rule book ,the constitution, the human right and lets live in a warrior’s world as survival of the fittest like animals .
The only reason we have made it this far because we communicate, we corporate and we understand each others needs and wants. If we were selfish and not selfless with a survival of the fitness we probably wouldn’t be here talking today . You enable bad behavior by not attempting to stop it and are talking about virtues
Summarizes your question quite nicely with the answer.
I don’t think this point has anything to do with the former issues. Whether you like or dislike someone’s statements really holds no value here, especially in terms of the constitution, and human rights. It might violate the TOS, but I’m not Blizzard’s Police.
I’d also like to add that policing a society is very expensive, and time consuming, and even if you spend billions of FIAT currency, it doesn’t change the outcome, as many slip through the cracks.
Furthermore if you think asking someone to be a “good” person will work, I wouldn’t count on it. I’m sure John Wayne Gacy, or even common thugs would laugh that off. But that is more Machiavellian thought.
People are selfish, and society has advanced because of it. Violence takes form in more than one way, it is not exclusive to words, but actions, and competition. Its often not “friendly.”
No, I can’t change people. That is a decision they have to make, and they have to want to make it. Discussing a topic with someone who doesn’t care is a waste of time generally.
I can’t enable what they would do with or without my presence. You’re demanding an impossible task that has almost a 100% failure rate. Its not worth the effort. If Government can’t prevent it, what makes you think a citizen can?
You have to think of it from other people’s perspective. I have been playing the game for 16 years. If I que for a dungeon, I’d like it to be fast. I didn’t sign up to teach people. If it’s a carry, so be it and I won’t complain but will begrudgingly do it. Other people will be mean.
Other people can suck and are mean. I try to be nice. But a lot won’t be.
It doesn’t because in the court of law under murder, hit and run trial watching it happen and not even making an attempt to stop it tries you as an enabler an accomplice and sentence accordingly even if didn’t even participate directly in the crime and your answer for that would be “I am not there to babysit them”
It absolutely does, rules and regulations exist irl ,in this game and this forums and ppl need to " behave " accordingly otherwise they don’t belong. So if you can see this happening and you keep your mouth shut and don’t do anything about it saying " I am not there to babysit" you are an enabler.
You are always going to be a part of he problem if you are going to say doing good things for other is me babysitting
I agree with that. Unfortunately, most don’t or aren’t able to bring themselves to care about them for various reasons, I suppose.
" In most states failure to report isn’t illegal, but a small minority of states have enacted laws punishing individuals who fail to report certain types of crimes to the authorities. Under, for example, you can be charged with a Class A misdemeanor for failing to report an offense that resulted in serious bodily injury or death. In Ohio, on the other hand, it’s illegal to knowingly fail to report a felony."
I doubt someone saying mean words online constitutes failure to report a crime though.
Reminds me of the guy who saved a woman from drowning, then was sued in civil court. Quite frankly, if you wish to be the line backer who takes the heat, be my guest.
No, I’m not going to be a sacrificial lamb and get caught up on harassment charges for some egotistical types who think it is their duty to harass players that say “mean” words.
Queuing and running normal content in this game is the worst of any mmo i have ever played by far unfortunately. I have a blast in most mmos doing normal dungeons. This one is aweful with much higher frequency than most. Or i have just been unlucky.
Therefore nobody ever in their life should do good things to others - this makes you paranoid as well .
Nobody is telling you to be sacrificially lamb, all you need to do is step in condemn the action and support the rules and regulations that are stated.
There is a big difference between my statement and yours. Policing people without the authority opens liability. The courts can and would side against someone even if their intentions were “good.”
Paranoid? No. Having situational awareness, being deeply grounded in reality, and having caution with the things I can control.
Did you not say that I need to enable this behavior that they could have remedied themselves? Did I not provide an answer? Instead you’re suggesting I become a “White knight” and police others behaviors without knowing their side of the story and making the assumption. Seems a bit inadequate and often this is how people end up in court for doing “good deeds.”
In other words you are never ever in your life going to do good things to others because among millions of good things a few bad events happened to some ppl . This is paranoid mentality buddy .
Yes by not acting . because you might be sued or be called a white knight … so much fear and paranoa
Condemning bad behavior shouldn’t be looked down as a bad thing . You are very much worried of other ppl think about you than doing the right thing .
I would had voted to kick the tank. You’d be surprised at how many people would actually do the same in that situation. I’ve had toxic tanks before who tried to kick someone over something petty. Guess what? They got kicked instead and we had the last laugh.
It would had been a good learning experience for your girlfriend seeing how you can get rid of someone being toxic in your group.
That is a strawman argument.
I guess you want to go do citizens arrests in Compton huh?
Good luck.
Enabling is quite different. Teaching someone to continuously complain in the forums isn’t going to do them any good. There are just as many trolls on here as there are in game. You’re not doing them any favors. As I said, they should learn to control their emotions, and queue another dungeon. Being an enabler is just as bad as being a person who says “mean” things.
just ignore clowns and keep playing…most of the ones that talk trash are bad players that want to be carried anyways.
I stopped reading after the first paragraph. Way too long to read
