Quick underpin delve thoughts

I have to admit that a season 2 ultimate delve boss had not hit my radar until good ole Brann told me about him.

Some quick thoughts on this messy fight.

setup notes: i did this as VDH 636 ilevel with regular m+ aldrachi hero talents. i don’t think i have a very good curio mix and none are higher than 2/4 so I don’t have much to offer in terms of curio setup. I had brann as dps for this fight since I can self heal pretty well.

this is a messy fight with underpin dropping a number of area of denial bombs and heroic leaps.

the fight choreography seemed to be more or less:

-boss
-area of denial (3 big ones)
-leap/crash
-bombs
-adds
-recharge shield
-rinse/repeat

outside of staying out of the bad, there seemed to be two mechanics to manage.

  1. underpin’s recharge shield. if you don’t get this down in time, he heals for about 25% of his health. I don’t know if this can eventually result in an enrage, but it obviously extends the fight. after the shield is removed, he leaves a tar patch that slows and does damage.

  2. adds: occasionally, three adds are brought in. they shoot rays that are pretty obvious and not bad to dodge when there are just three. but they also do regular unavoidable damage too that whittle away your health.

for 1) save your burst for the shield and nuke it down asap.

one problem i encountered a couple of times was that the area of denial bombs can spawn on him. as tank/melee, this reduces time on the boss/shield and he will probably heal.

for 2) small bombs get dropped that you can aim at the adds.

I found two tricks helpful.

a) I kept my back to the fencing and worked counterclockwise around the room. this positioning tends to keep the adds together along the fence.

b) when you see the bombs come down, move the boss away from them. that way, when the adds spawn, you can move/jump back to the bombs and more easily target them. when he stands on them, I found them very difficult to use and aim.

you might need to send two or three bombs into the adds to get them all down. but don’t let the adds build up, because they shoot rays around the room and each of them causes rot damage. did I say this was messy?

gl!
