So I’ve come back hoping to relive some of the good old days from youth…but I’m a bit worried. So after the expansion and were level 60…all these “old” lands are just gonna be 10 levels under? We just run around 1 shotting stuff and basicaly “play” in the new shadowlands for good?
Sorry if this has been asked before, it just kinda bums me out if “this” is gonna be the game at 60. Any answer would be appreciated, would just like to know what i’ve come back too.

That’s how the game has always worked yes. It’s actually a lot better now with Chromie time you can at least enjoy any expansion you want up until lvl 50.
Kaerensa…thanks for the help. Its been awhile but I could have sworn there were still “some” green zones for farming etc…it almost seems like everything is just gonna be grey mobs then? I guess I just remember having a bit more freedom to still go to old zones and farm quest etc…

At max level, prior expansions are always fully grey/irrelevant mobs. Lots of quests at max level will make those zones relevant with quest phasing.

the expansion will be the expansion content. For many who have started in BfA or Shadowlands the old content is just stuff in the past - I’ve done Loremaster but they don’t have the same appeal to us.
Though you might be able to find like minded players to stick with you at 49 (Chromie) or 50(BfA) and enjoy the bliss of having all lower content scaled to you or the current expansion (if you like it).
Elite mobs remain green when you are 10 levels above them… but all normal mobs go grey… maybe that is what you were remembering… especially since some past expansions had entire endgame zones filled with elite mobs…
Anyways… outside of BfA zones, absolutely everything will be grey once you hit 60 if it’s not in a SL zone… only elites in BfA zones will be green… outside of Chromie Time, Legion zones cap out at 45 putting legion elites well into the grey mob territory, and every expansion before legion caps at increasingly lower levels… it’s stupid… they shouldn’t have made Chromie Time it’s own special game mode… it should have simply be how old expansions were scaled… all past expansions should have each been 10-50 period… not just 10-50 with chromie time active and some odd scale like 10-18 outside of Chromie time…

If you want to experience all old content and have it be challenging, get to level 49 and lock your character to stop experience gain, I think there is a guy in stormwind keep you speak too.
That way chromie time will always be open to you and everything will match you at level 49.
