around what % mastery would I start doing damage as fire? I know very little of the spec as I’ve only ever played frost but I’ve been thinking about finally making the switch, after I get the right gear of course.
Fire and mastery is a delicate dance.
I’m not the most all-knowing fire mage out there but I’ve had to put a lot of work into getting functional (I switched to fire at the start of this tier).
From what I’ve been able to gather talking to other fire mages in my guild and the mage discord, hitting the sims, and consulting everything and anyone I can, you start looking at mastery once you have 3 pieces of masterful corruption on your gear. Once you get 3 masterful, go all-in on your gems and enchants with mastery.
From my personal experience, before I got masterful, haste and vers were simming as my best stats. I was running around 25% haste, 19% vers, and 18% mastery. Now with masterful I’m sitting at 43% mastery (unbuffed), 21% haste, and 16% vers.
That’s just due to the gear I have available. I’ll try to give up more vers for mastery as I get more masterful gear on. I’m sitting at 1400 haste and I’ve seen some mages go as low as 1200.
I wouldn’t even worry about your mastery until you have at least 2 or 3 masterful corruptions. You can still do good damage focusing on haste/vers before you snag them.
