So obviously the most optimized class/profession combo is.
Paladin engineer/tailor as that combo nets around 13 exclusive mount.
But while trolling around mount collection websites I noticed that all alliance get the standard chargers and then I noticed that dark iron dwarves get their racial charger and they can use standard dwarven chargers.
Would that mean that specifically the dark iron dwarf paladin who has engineering/tailoring gets around 15-16 exclusive mounts? Making them the best mount collection race/class/profession combo.
Definitely something to think about after reaching 700+ mounts.
As a seasoned mount collector, i really wouldn’t worry about stuff like that, by the time you get to the last 5% of available mounts, you’ll be looking at sub 1% drops, mounts that cost 10’s of millions of gold and mounts that require having dozens of alts for different factions, races, classes and covenants. One or more of these things is going to turn you off pushing into the crazy margins so you may as well just play whatever class/race/faction you enjoy.

I tested it out. I started with 163 mounts useable by 1 character and then I changed my dwarf paladin into a DI paladin(I wanted to do so anyways) and it stayed at 163 so race doesn’t matter at all actually.
You don’t have to have the profession on one specific character. You can have an alt with engineering, one with tailoring and one with leather working and all those profession only mounts will count for your overall account total.
I’m looking to mainly get the mount collection achievements so useable by 1 character is important ATM
I know and I’m saying you don’t have to worry about which characters have tailoring, engineering and leather working.
It’s an account wide count.

Y’all think about things oddly.
I’m over here thinking “A mage engineer with the right toys collected and be just about anywhere in <5 min.”

What does that have to do with mount collecting?
OP was considering the optimum race/class combo for collecting mounts, which to me seems like an odd sort of minmaxing, especially in light of the miniscule difference it will make relative to the total number of mounts that are collectible. To me, considering which race/class combos can, say, get somewhere fastest is more impactful.
It’s about getting there in style.
It used to be that but they sort of float those (profession-ish) counts to all characters on whichever faction you have the most. Sure it’d be easier to go absolute full account for counting but they don’t want to.
