I believe their tattoos/warpaint represent the tribe they come from but I’m not sure, it’s what I remember from Legion, so:
- Do tattoos represent their tribe?
- If 1 is yes, red would be the Bloodtotem, what would the Rivermane and Skyhorn colors be?
I don’t recall anything of this nature being mentioned, however it probably should be mentioned that the Bloodtotem are not part of the playable Highmountain Tauren – that tribe aligned with the Legion, and killed those among themselves who were unwilling or unable to do so.
Most of them did and formed the Feltotem tribe. I do recall some defectors from the Bloodtotem surviving who didn’t want the corruption of the Legion.
I’d ask which quest indicates that happened, if you can remember or find it, then. I distinctly remember them killing or imprisoning anyone who even found out that they were aligning with the Legion, and that was people who weren’t part of the tribe.
The one guy you ask about it winds up dead a few quests later, if my memory serves.
I remember the same here aswell.
I mostly remember freeing some Bloodtotem from the Feltotem during a Legion assault, I could be wrong though.
Edit: I doubt this has any correlation, but if you look at the Highmountain totem in the embassy, there’s 3 triangles in the 3 colors of warpaint we have, and that’s possibly suggesting that tattoos do have a tribe correlation and that some of the remaining Bloodtotem are playable. It’s also possible that the third triangle for the Bloodtotem is just left for memory’s sake, and this is assuming (though reasonably) that those triangles represent tribes.
Maybe I’m wrong but all the HMT NPCs I can remember were using red tattoos. I guess they added blue and green for variety’s sake.
I think you’re thinking of this WQ, but I don’t recall the prisoners there being Bloodtotem.
In the video there’s only Skyhorn and Rivermane prisoners shown, so I was incorrect there. In that case we can only assume some managed to survive and preserve the Bloodtotem tribe, based on both some managing to escape and possibly what I mentioned about the Bloodtotem possibly being represented in the Highmountain totem.
My knowledge of the Hightmountain tribes is too poor I need to level there again.

The Bloodtotem tribe is gone. Wiped out or aligned with the Legion and then wiped out. Red tattoos does not mean Bloodtotem.

I meant we could assume that they are playable because some possibly managed to escape. We’re not entirely sure that they are entirely wiped out, though I do concede it’s more reasonable to assume so.
I guess it’s remotely possible, so I wouldn’t be trying to jump down the throat of someone RPing one, but to the driving question of this thread, I don’t think warpaint is indicative of tribal affiliation for the Highmountain tribes.
