Recently there’s quite a topic about soloing Stratholm , on a very popular WoW forum in my region,
as everybody talking about Classic beta and good old days of those Vanilla time, some people showed up and said they had solo’d the whole Stratholm dungeon with their 9 tier 3 rogues, right on 1.12 version of Vanilla, Not pre-TBC patches.
specifically they said they would solo all the way down to Baron Rivendare several times each day just for the deathcharger.
other players have been questioning the authenticity, yet none were provided.
so in NA or EU , was there anyone ever did that? or could anyone?
That is an interesting question. Coming through the back door, you’d have to kill the three zig bosses, clear the aboms, the abom boss and the skele soldiers just to get to Baron. Being Rogues they could stealth and miss most trash.
A friend and I were just chatting yesterday about how high of a dungeon a person could solo in Classic. I was asking him more in terms of trash farming and not so much the bosses though.
My buddies and I used to duo and trio those instances in AQ40 gear so… Maybe? Never tried it solo.
I know someone who was trying to solo it in AQ gear, but never could survive the packs at the entrance to the Baron’s chambers.
It’s doable potentially in tier 3 gear.
I don’t think it would be easy or forgiving and would probably require a very specific set of undead killing gear and plenty of holy water.
And healing potions.
I tried to solo many things back in the day. On my hunter I could clear a significant portion of BRD, Do tribute (Dire Mail), solo a few other dungeon bosses. I was able to solo some trash in MC by circle kiting in Rags spawn area (not worth it IMO, just fun for showing off). Never could solo Baron Riv… he’s just way too tough and you can’t pull him out of his area.
On my mage I could solo some trash, like the gator packs in ZG…
Most high level content is just impossible to solo, even for a skilled hunter.
Ironpelt - could you solo ST trash on a Vanilla Hunter? It seems like a good way to farm dragonscales, leather and boe’s if it’s not too difficult.
You know, I never actually bothered with going back to ST. I hated the layout and navigating it. I imagine some people did, and it didn’t make the list of best farming areas for hunters back then or even now.
I have no doubt you can solo a good amount though…
Don’t the first few pack of mobs at the strath back door have insane stealth detection? How did rogues get past that?
Patch 1.6.0 (2005-07-12)
- Many creatures in Stratholme have gained Detect Invisibility/Stealth.
I’m a little confused when you say they solo’d it with 9 rogues, I’ll assume you mean they had 9 rogues and soloed it on each one.
It should be theoretically possible I think, the 3 zigg bosses shouldn’t be too bad (1.12 already had the fix for the banshee chick I think, so she won’t possess a solo target.)
I can almost guarantee it was slower than a speed clearing group could do it though, but you keep all the loot so… meh?
Well, now ST is horrible for doing anything but farming green dragonscale. With so much of the trash gone, the drop rate for the ST-specific blues is almost impossible and you don’t get many greens either.
I learned a lot about tanking in ST so I eventually figured the layout out well enough. I just hate what they did to it with the revamp though so I feel bad every time I go in there now. At least now I have all of the bop regular boss drops learned for all the armor classes for that dungeon (for most of the 1-60 dungeons actually) so I have no more reason to go there unless I want to craft green dragonscale stuff.
He meant 9 piece tier 3.
Rogues can clear the zigs easy. the boss fights for a decked out rogue is doable. Baron you would need evasion and probably a shadow prot potion.
Seems an odd way to phrase it, I mean why not just say full tier 3, or full t3. There are no bonuses after 8 pieces anyway.
Point stands though, should be possible. Mechanically I cannot think of any specific portion that would be not be doable with enough DPS and maybe some consumables. You would also have to kill the skellies on baron pretty quick but I think a holy water can kill the whole set so… might work?
I have done baron runs back in the day with prot war, fury war (me) and druid healer. We were in pretty much BIS gear though. Would duo DM with the druid (me as fury).
I have yet to find a single video of anyone ever soloing Baron at level 60 pre-bc.
The issue first begins with the fact you’re caged in, so you can’t really kite him.
The second issue being that he does a lot of dmg for a lvl 60 to begin with.
The third issue being that he raises skeles frequently throughout the fight.
The 4th issue being that has like 40k+ hp.
I imagine that this may have been done with world buffs at one point. I do not believe that this would be possible without world buffs though.
that’s very impressive of you.
in my case, i mean back in our forum of my region,
one of those rouges who stated they could solo Baron Rivendare , did have a video about him did the dire maul tribute, I started WoW at pre-BC so I generally have no idea how big of a deal that is, but people actually said doing a DM tribute as a rouge is quite of a show off.
since you look like a solo kinda guy ,in your opinion is it possible to solo stratholm ? given any gears, common buffs and world buffs.
Everyone says they solo / duo’d bosses with stealthers . No one mentions this -
Patch 1.6.0 (2005-07-12)
- Many creatures in Stratholme have gained Detect Invisibility/Stealth.
So did all these kills happen in 2004 / early 2005?
They will still drop combat if you vanish out of their sight range.
In my opinion, in raid gear T2+ and buffs with a good strategy, there’s tons of solo potential. I don’t think Baron is one of those, but I could be proven wrong. I don’t know everything, and there’s always clever people out there!!
Tribute as a rogue would be impressive. As a hunter you have to kite around in a figure 8 using the pathing. I’d love to see someone just do it toe to toe lol.
