Quick question about names

Are special characters allowed in classic?

I do not remember seeing special characters in character names in vanilla. I could be fuzzy though. Could have just been a population thing

It would be nice to not see them. Lol just being honest. Hard to type out a name in vanilla if i have to mash a sequence 50 times to spell bloodfist or w/e

Yup  Saw plenty of players on the beta using special characters in their names.

So the “Copy character name” option will be available? That option was not available in vanilla.

SLIPPERY SLOPE!!:exploding_head:

One slope that i dont want to slide down. Keep the retail out of classic! :stuck_out_tongue:

So wasn’t RCR, so wasn’t Battle Net integration, but those are in Classic. You are a bit late and a dollar short.

What do you mean by copy character name?

Note: Russian doesn’t work, and the Beta had special access changes for non-Roman characters because it was international.

It’s likely that since language changes are in the Retail base, that the extended ISO character set is usable, but its not guaranteed.

Your name is a perfect example Rozen. If I wanted to send you postage for example, I’d have to figure out the alt code for the letter o in your name.

OP, the best thing you can do is open up the typing chat box, hold down shift, and left click their name. Then take your mouse to highlight it, and copy+paste their name wherever.

Google the ascii table to figure out how to do certain characters. I won’t have the 2 dots on my name in classic. This is just because I happened to transfer to a server where someone already had my name… which is odd to me… apparently its a somewhat popular name. I have no idea why though. i use it as a shortened version of my original druids name.

also its alt+148 for the ö.

Thank you.

The few times I’ve transferred a character and found it taken, I just find a new name. Then again, I also reserve my mains on the servers i’d be likely to move to.

You could create a character with them in vanilla as well. But I believe characters outside the standard ASCII range were not “allowed” in vanilla. It used to be against their naming requirements. I remember someone in my guild having to change their name because they had a special character in it. There are a few accented characters within ASCII though so that may have been what they were using.

So even though you saw someone with a name containing accented letters that does not necessarily mean they’re allowed. It just means they’re not restricted on character creation, which is consistent with vanilla.

I could see them changing this rule for Classic though. I’d guess that they will be allowed.

I’m not up to date on all the naming options either. Are 2 letter names allowed? This was removed sometime around cata/panda iirc

Hmm, I hope they are. I have a few character who’s names are actually spelled with them; including this one.

I dont mind them. I just hope people dont go crazy. Mailing is hard! :stuck_out_tongue:
