Quick question about Balance rotation, when do you reapply dots?

I have a very basic understanding of the rotation, it really isn’t that difficult. Basically at the start of the fight I apply both dots then I get into eclipse, from there I reapply the corresponding DOT (Solar I reapply Sunfire, Lunar I reapply Moonfire) and do my thing

My question is if I am in Solar and moonfire is about to fall off do I reapply during eclipse or do I wait for that to end and then reapply my DOTs. If I spec for Stellar Flare do I only reapply the DOT outside of Eclipse?

Moonfire and sun fire are maintenance dots. They do some damage, they help generate resource, but overall they aren’t a huge part of your damage. Don’t worry about lining up certain CDs with them. If they’re about to fall of, get them back up before they do.

and what about Stellar Flare, same thing? Doesn’t really matter the situation if its about to falloff reapply? Or is that better done inbetween Eclipses?

Always reapply the dots, even stellar flare.

As far as I’m aware balance dots do not “snapshot” so the only thing that matters is having them active (feral does snapshot it’s bleeds).

Snapshot means the buffs you have active when applying the dot impact the damage over the entire dot, this is rare. If this is the case, which it isn’t for balance, then you apply your dots when all your buffs are up.

Most dots however just have the damage of the dot go up/down as buffs come on/off. Which means the only thing that matters is having the dot on the mob as much as possible.

just slap them on whenever they are not on. Dont worry about snapshotting them.

There is no snapshotting for boomkin, only feral. There’s pandemic timing though.

Quote from Maxroll
The “Pandemic” mechanic in WoW is a crucial element for min-maxing. It allows you to add 30% of the normal duration of a DoT (Damage over Time) or HoT (Heal over Time) to its new application, effectively extending it. This enables you to fully focus on your cooldowns or other important windows without having to spend a global cooldown on something that doesn’t contribute significantly to direct damage or healing.

Example 1:
You cast a dot, last 10 seconds. You reapplied at 3 seconds left. the newly applied duration is now 13 seconds.

Example 2:
You cast a dot, lasts 10 seconds. You reapplied it at 5 seconds left. the newly applied duration is now 10 seconds.

Usually, optimally, right before the end of an Eclipse. That is since between them, I will Starsurge extra AP if I need to, then the (annoying) x2 filler to get to the next one (even though I’m grateful for Nature’s Grace speeding that up). This way, when getting to the next Eclipse, I can spam-(star)surge and then (usually, unless in M+ I guess) spam Wrath (& jam in those instant Starfires from Warrior of Elune / Owlkin Adept)
