Question on Ancestral Resonance for Enhance Shaman:
Is it worth timing pots/ wolves/ trinkets/ racials and ascendance with the last 20 seconds or so of Ancestral Resonance? The Mastery buff seems crazy high on this talent, and was wondering if it is worth it to hold onto it.
Also, I know it is slated to be changed in 8.1, but it seems worth it to me to wait on ascendance again in raids for when we can “lust” (5 min CD, just to get the mastery buff, even tho there is no other effect) a 2nd time in a boss fight (on progression). But this would be at the cost of missing out on a third ascendance window (pull, 3 minute, 6 minute - whereas on lust its at pull and 5 minutes).
I know that one can practice them and sim them, but wondered if people had any opinion on this.
Does anyone know if the Uldir buff on your secondary start going to carry over to the next raid? or are these raid specific?
This is raid specific. There may be new gear with stat boosts in the next raid, so you will have to start all over again.
You should never be getting a second lust on prog, since it is a 10 min wait for sated, not 5 minutes for the cd of lust. Some bosses where an exception Guldan for instance, but you Should pre pot before pull, use all your cds with the pot, then your ascendance will be ready for your next pot.
In theory using cds within the last few seconds could boost your dps by more than the start, but it really depends on when your lust hits. Sometimes it is just easier to use it at the start of lust so your don’t chance it. With the updated changes, that is up for debate. It will not be a 100% chance to get mastery anymore … An rng proc that is “higher” when lust is popped.
I’ll echo the sentiment that it is best to ensure full duration of everything with Lust, than risk Lust dropping early.
Combined with equip based trinket procs typically firing right at the beginning of an event (when the average Lust is cast), the safer bet is to time things with Lust rather than the tail end of Anc Res.
Ancestral Resonance is on the cast of bloodlust not the effect of it. So you can cast it every 5 minutes and get the mastery buff even though there is no haste effect with it. Same reason why ancestral resonance does not proc on someone elses lust or heroism. Unless this was hotfixed, I tested it a couple of weeks ago. That is why I say you can get the mastery buff twice in a fight. Again, I know this trait is scheduled for a change in 8.1 so it will probably won’t matter
I just got a 385 chest with AR. I played with the azerite choice early expansion. Regardless of the 8.0 to 8.1 change of active during lust buff vs cast I still cannot like it that much.
buff timer is 20 sec build up & 20 sec at max. Basically the duration of lust.
Me testing @ double stack (375/385 ilvl pieces = +161 mastery/sec):
Pre mastery 735
At max stack mastery: 3955
Pre mastery Stormbringer/Windfury + proc chance: 1.45%
At max Max stack 5.03%
Pre mastery bonus to fire, frost, earth dps: 36% At max Max stack 125%
My thoughts and please let me know if I am wrong:
The magic damage buff is great and not easy enough for us to capitalize on with our current reliability on proc spamming.
Early lust fights and pre poting means your pot will fall off around 22-23 seconds into encounter. If early lust, general time is 5-7 seconds after pull to let all get ready and AR does not get fully going till +20s… this is after pot falls off. Not ideal.
Ascendance will do excellent damage without AR and ascendance is almost always used during lust. Ascendance allows you to windstrike and its badass. It is also physical damage like stormstrike. AR pushes up your mastery that pushes up fire, frost, nature damage. Ascendance is physical. Lust pushes up procs of strombringer and stormstrike spam and some help on Ascendance that are all physical. The 36% jump to 125% magic dps is kind of lost with our proc spamming EXCEPT if we have a good multi target, sunder, crash lighting, lava lash… situation.
I think if we have a few changes to class and not rely on stormstrike proc spaming AR could be great. I think if you plan correctly on an ideal encounter AR could be great. Other azerite choices are more dps consistent within encounter and among all encounters.
