Questions about New Feature Addon Profiling

So, From what I understand. Blizzard added this new feature in our addon’s tab that Montiors out CPU, Memory, and who knows what else that’s not visible.

Before 11.1 , I had spent the time and gold to try some 4 boxing farms ( Ofc Not using any programs just alt tabing through each window ) But, At the time I was trying this I only had 12GB of ram total.

Now I was peaking +90% usage on my Ram with 4 accounts open in game and thought that wasn’t a good idea to stay that high for extended length of time. So After wasting +800kg to test it lol I was like crap.

I found another set of 3x4GB sticks of Ram for cheap after this ( I have a very old Motherboard an EVGA X-58 Classsifed 3 , It uses 6 dimm slots ) So in total I was now rocking a stable 24GB of ram now! yay baby! Also a friend gave me a huge GPU upgrade for Free, went from a EVGA GTX 770 Superclocked 2GB to a Nvidia Founders Edition RTX 2070 Super 8GB GPU. It’s a Beast!! So, I’ve patched up my PC a bit since that little 4 boxing experiment lol.

11.1 drops and Now Just playing on a single account with barely any addons, I’m pushing almost 9-12.5GB of Ram usage… WHAT HAPPENED??? I’ve even turned off all my addons, turned my graphics to potato and STILL having INSANE memory usage issues. Barely get over 30 FPS in Dorn, CPU usange is total fine at like Mebbe 25-50% spikes with 10-20 usage normal.

I went to google / youtube to find out anything I could and I found this Weakaura that disables the Blizzard Addon Profiling feature and people are swearing they are jumping huge in FPS from 30 -90 fps.

The Weakaura is

  • Disable Blizzard AddOn profiling on login-

But I found some people saying people were getting banned for using this Weakaura… If I could get any more Offical information on this It would be great before I install it and try to see if it fixes my issues.

Also blizzard, not all of us have NASA super computers so adding more taxing features without a way to turn them off isn’t fair to those of us without the means to upgrade our PC’s as quickly as you keep upgrading WoW features.

I’m just trying to figure out why I’ve jump so High in Memory usage after the 11.1 Patch Even tho I have upgarded adding more Ram and a better GPU and it still seems like it’s not enough.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post Hope to hear back with some more detailed information on the topic or some potential fixes I can try.

 Have a great day y’all!

I’d move this to customer support to be more likely to get an answer on it. It seems many people are using the command and more eyes should see this to make sure it isn’t something that could cause issues.

You can move it by editing it and choosing the forum you want it in.

ty - ill do that

It’s literally only registering and toggling the CVar that controls the addon profiler which are actions you can do from chat using the base API. Nobody should be getting banned from this weakaura.

You can do this all manually, but registering a CVar only lasts until you close the game.

Thank’s a ton for the infomration! I’ll give it a shot and see if it helps my performance issues.

Thus makes me wonder if the addon profiler is behind the freezes.

Probably anti-botfarming workarounds lol… From a more technical perspective, they likely just upped the texture/mesh/etc pool cache size (assets will stay offloaded to the CPU for a while in case the GPU needs them again, which is faster than having to reload the file from the drive, and if a long enough period of time goes by where they aren’t needed/used again, they get Thanos snapped by the garbage collector)

If it’s not that, then it could be your system’s security suite not correctly freeing memory when requested by the game. It could also be a combination of these two possibilities.

What security suite do you use?

Just using windows 11 security. I don’t use anything else tbh haven’t for years just been bloatware and causes more problem then they solve.

Hmm, well it still seems odd that it’s using that much memory. I was on for a few minutes earlier today and the client was only using around 4-5gb.

Ya, I’m completely confused. - Things I’ve done so far.

  • Reset my UI to default
  • Cleaned out old Addons
  • Disabled All Addons.
  • Scan and Repair Option with Desktop app.
  • increased my paging file ( Virtual Memory ) from 8GB to 16GB on my SSD
  • Used the /console gxrestart
  • Set my Graphics to the lowest settings
  • Closed all Extra apps ( Google Chrome, etc, etc, )
  • Full restart of PC + Clean launch of WoW

I’m still running 9GB+

I’m at a loss, I’d love to get mine down to 4-5GB as well. Hmm, hope I can figure this out soon it’s driving me batty! lol Thanks

And you’re sure that’s 9gb for WoW.exe and not total system memory usage? Windows usually eats up around 4-5gb on it’s own, so if WoW is using 4-5gb, you could easily end up with 9gb for total system usage.

Base Memory with 1 google tab open, Bnet app, Steam + TSM Desktop app, and MSI Afterburner for my GPU stuff. Is 4.5-5GB, But, When im playing total system memory spikes. The highest I’ve seen was 12.7GB total system.

4.5GB total system memory usage without Google Chrome

5GB total system memory usage with 1 tab ( currently using this Bnet forum page )

I log into wow , at character select Warband select screan and it starts to spike to 6-7-8GB

I pick my charcter log into Let’s say somewhere remote The Maw ( Pet Farming ) Barely if any other players around.

It starts to spike again to 9-10.5… Levels out but over time 11-11.5 so on up to 12.7 last time I was doing testing.

So even with a base of lets go with 4.5GB with no Google tabs or Extra’s but was mentioned above I’m still 8.2GB of Sololy WoW.exe usage. I just don’t get it.

Someone was mentioning a memory leak? But I’ve done Memtest 86 and windows memory tests a few times now and they’ve come back clean each time.

My next step I guess is to do a full uninstall , wipe all my settings , delete all addons, and start from scratch with a clean install. Unless I’m just so fustrated I’m missing something obvious lol. I mean I can still play, and I have plenty of overhead on my 24GB’s but still. The fact the longer I play the more ram seems to just pile up.

Well, thats all I can really tell ya so far, I’ve tried everything. Soo unless a fariy god goblin comes out of my toilet with a new PC I kinda just have to deal with it. lmao.

by any chance do you use all the things i find that spikes wows ram usage but ive never had it go that high

Tons of random apps throw in overlays and use hardware acceleration, which can mess stuff up with games and cause issues like this. Clip capturing features can do the same(they keep buffers of the last N seconds at all times and might be storing them in RAM).

Try closing out of every single other program bnet. In the bnet settings, disable hardware acceleration and reboot it(wait 30 seconds before relaunching the app since it lingers around in the processes for a bit after closing).

Within your task manager, verify that absolutely nothing else is using the GPU by right clicking on the column categories in the process list and adding “GPU engine.” Sort the processes by GPU engine (click a couple times till stuff shows up at the top). Make sure that absolutely nothing other than desktop window manager is there (some other windows processes will randomly blip on and off and that’s fine).

Disable any recording stuff like shadowplay. Go into start menu->settings->gaming->captures and disable “record what just happened.” Those types of features will tack their memory usage onto games and sometimes VRAM, if I’m not mistaken.

Open WoW and see if it changes anything.

Nah, I’d say the most taking Addons I use now are TSM, Bagnon, and Weakaura’s. But with Weakaura’s I did the Delete Models Trick that was causing issues… I Don’t even use a DPS meter or a boss mod addon, I’m pretty bare bones kinda player when it comes to addons.

I would absolutely not classify TSM or WeakAuras as barebones. These are some of the bigger drains on performance you can install.

Ya, I went through added the GPU engine , WIndows explorer , Desktop Windows Manager, were the only ones showing for GPU 0 - 3D. I disabled hardware Acceleration on the Bnet app as well.

I recently did a clean install with DDU and NVCleanstall. In Safemode, Used the 572.70 Nvida drivers, and the new Nvidia APP, that replaced Geforce Experience. I’ve always disabled the Overlays and recording options in that, as well with things like discord. Never needed them lol. Even disabled all the recording and game bar stuff in Windows 11.

Ill do a reset of my PC really quick and give it a test.

Did my Test, without any extra apps, or google chrome tabs open, no steam, with my basic Addons enabled, and disabling Bnets Hardware Acceleration on the app. In Dorn, I was there for 10 mins. I was flat lining Memory around 9.4GB total system usage… My resting total system usage desktop is 4.3GB with 1 google tab and Bnet app running.

So, I’m down to 5.1GB WoW.exe of ram usage, lol did hardware acceleration really cause that?. hmm, I’ll have to do some 5 mans and real playing around to see if it starts to pool again over time. but at least its not 12-13GBs now. So werid. Thanks for the tip.

I’ll still keep trying find ways to lower it , I might do that /console gxrestart again and retart my PC see if it make a difference.

UGH why can’t PC’s just do what their told! lol

And that sounds like a completely normal amount of ram usage for the game. Sometimes hardware acceleration can do funky things like that if they latch on to processes or if they compete for vram/shared memory.

Other than that, sounds like your situation is rectified. I wouldn’t be surprised though if WoW.exe is coded to make a pool size that is some fractional amount of your memory or something hardcoded like 8192mb, so don’t freak out if you see it up that high. It would likely drop down over time as the old assets in the pool get garbage collected.

Thanks for the help, I guess my OCD was getting the better of me and with these latest Access violation cashes that have been going on. I was concerned it was Bad Ram on my part, and with the poor performance I’ve been getting lately in game But It has to just be a blizzard game being a blizzard game lol.

Have a great weekend friend
