Questions about Adventure Mode, can someone please explain?

I got my main to 70, finished the campaign, and got the “Adventure Mode Unlocked!” notice. I went in with my alt, saw the table, and clicked on the zones. I can see WQ on my map and everything, but it still seems like it’s kinda guiding me along the story campaign.

So I’m a little confused. Is the story campaign still required? I liked the story, but I just saw it and I’d like to just tank my way to 70. Am I going to have to go back and do the story later? Is it required for any reason?

Was wondering the same thing, hope blizz can give some clarification on it.

Adventure Mode isn’t like Threads of Fate in Shadowlands where the story is complete and you level through bonus objectives and world quests.

Instead it just unlocks all the end-game content for you the moment you enter Dragonflight zones, and you can do whatever you want to level. You can go through the story again if you want to (while being free to do the zones in any order), or you can just level via dungeons, world quests and events like the Centaur Hunts etc.

Essentially instead of giving you a linear experience where you have to level via the story and side quests, with dungeons unlocking as you go, they’re opening up the sandbox and saying “Go have fun, do what you want.”

Adventure mode is overlaid on top the campaign, rather than replacing it entirely like Threads of Fate. It’s an ‘also’, not an ‘instead’.

Okay, thank you! That explains a lot. Just one further question if you don’t mind. While reading, I saw someone say that the Inspiration Catalyst will require completion of the story campaign. Do you know if that’s true? Anyway, even if this isn’t clear yet, I do appreciate the info that you’ve provided. Thank you!

I don’t know if the creation catalyst requires completion of the story or not sadly.

I’d imagine it does for your first character, since adventure mode isn’t even available until you finish the story once. But alts probably won’t require completion.

okay, well that’s fair. I’ll just go enjoy some dungeons. Thanks so much for answering my questions

Don’t know if you’re still levelling but it sounds like alts might need to do the MSQ in Thaldraszus to unlock Spark.

No. The reason that story campaign is required for the first toon is that it unlocks all the stuff in Adventure mode.

I came in with my alts and they are actually leveling pretty fast doing nothing but crafting. My mage got to level 62 and I didn’t even notice…just leveling tailoring and disenchanting stuff in my guild’s bank.

You can level your alts in literally any way you please. You can pick herbs all the way to 70 if you like, or you can do world questing, or you can go from zone to zone doing the dragon races, or you can dungeon…or whatever.

It’s complete freedom for your alts.

this is an excellent question, but I highly doubt it as the completion of the campaign gives an account-wide achievement.

Dragon riding is also account-wide. My alts have all four dragons & maxed skill from the moment they enter Dragon Isles.

It’s all pretty amazeballs. I’ve never seen anything so alt-friendly from WoW.

while leveling an alt I’m finding that I cant turn in some quests in certain areas. Like I have “Neltharus: Secrets Within” quest to turn in at Obsidian Citadel but when I fly there, there is nothing there as in I havent done the prereqs yet to open it up. Blizz!!!

It’s a bit odd with an alt now, since I selected Ohn’ahran Plains from the map table, and now the “main story quests” there have regular quest markers instead of the quest marker in a shield like the main story quests usually do. I still see a quest in Wingrest Embassy with a shield, I guess since that was the next one that I didn’t do in that zone since I chose something else from the table. I also see another main story quest marker in Azure Span, which seems to be the starting quest for that zone.

All in all, it’s a bit confusing, and I have no idea if I’ll unlock the proper systems at level 70 or not.

Edit: Interesting. When I logged in on the alt today, the main story quest was displayed with the shield icon once again, so just a glitch. Shocking, I know…

I think the real benefit here willbe the unlock of the end game from the start. I’m cool redoing a lot of the questing (been some of the best story/questing in a while) but nth alt through and it will get a bit painflu. Though I figure it’s the best way to gain the renown.

Inspiration Catalyst doesn’t require the campaign for alts, I just unlocked it on my first alt, who hasn’t done more than a handful of Waking Shore quests and isn’t even level 70 yet.

The story campaign is not required but you can do it along side side quests, world quests, and gathering for bonus rep and quicker leveling.

Pretty confused with this one too.

I understand that Story quests are not required to level, but you’ll need to do them down the line anyway if you want to progress through the story ( meaning if you want to open up the later chapters of the story, you have to do the story quests in every zone right ? )
