Questions about a RP Concept

Hi all! I’ve never roleplayed in WoW before but have always wanted to. I constantly come up with backstories for my characters to make the game feel more immersive.
I have a concept for a Forsaken warlock, but instead of a warlock, I wanted to RP her as a Witch, focusing on the Shadow spells. Basically Affliction stuff, curses and drains and whatnot, moreso than the Fel. RP wise, she wouldn’t be using demons or anything related to Fel magic. Is this feasible to do? Or is the Shadow magic they use still tied into Fel magic?

Lots of folks use warlock class for the aesthetic whether it be for witches, troll witch doctors, etc. shadow magic is definitely something you can do and no one would bat and eye! Great idea

I’m very glad to hear that! Now I just have to flesh it all out, thank you for the reply!

With some friend we did a fun Vampire the Masquerade RPwith out DKs back in the day, we were the terror of the streets of Silvermoon at night.

You can do whatever you want as long it does not contradict the lore (like being a Tauren that is the bastard daugther of Sargeras and Elune )

Yeahhh, I do my best to follow the lore. I’ve played the game since it came out, and have spent hours upon hours watching/wasted watching lore vids lol. I’ve just never actually tried RPing in-game. I play a lot of d&d so hopefully that will help, but it still seems like a daunting experience

Hell, my Undead Warlock is basically just a fire mage who taps into a bit of Fel Magic to make his fire extra agonizing. RP-wise, the only demon he ever actually got was the imp.

I like that concept, very cool!

If you haven’t done Drustvar, that’s definitely worth a try. The witches there (shudder) do a lot of stuff that you could easily incorporate into the affliction warlock kit. Curses, drains, and…and other horrors not fit for the eyes of man.

…seriously, something is wrong with Drustvar. My demon hunter was wondering what to dedicate herself to after the fall of the Legion, and then she went there and it’s OH MY GOD, PLEASE, SOMEONE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE WITCHES.

Sorry. It’s just a living nightmare. But, yeah, you’re fine being a shadowy witch and not so much a fel one. Just, you know.

…you better watch it.

Being Forsaken, warlocks are much more accepted in their society, correct? I’d definitely plan to hide her magic when in Orgrimmar or anywhere that’s not Forsaken centric. I plan to have her be an apothecary as well; while among the living, she was an herbalist and alchemist, so I thought that would fit. So to the public eye she would just be an apothecary. Still probably frowned upon, but better than everyone knowing she’s a witch!

Warlocks are tolerated in Orgrimmar and were even under Thrall. Only the Tauren seem to find it particularly objectionable but they don’t mind it too much so long as it’s kept to the Pools of Vision.
