Question: Why do people post with Alts

As the title says, Why do people post with Alts?
Especially when recruiting for a Guild.

Because BFA is so far gone from Classic it pretty much doesn’t matter.

What does your ilevel or 5/9 LFR mean to someone looking to start a guild when classic launches?

The Trust system plays a role at this point as well

All characters are alts when posting in the Classic forum.

Pardon? Classic hasn’t been released so mains are still in Retail.

Because their main account has been ranting and gotten a reputation in the community? Or so that that account doesn’t get banned?

I figure that’s why there’s so many “new” level 10s with the almost word for word opinions of other characters that have disappeared.

Pretty much this.

Beyond that, are you calling them alts because they aren’t level 120? Because they only have a few posts ever? Because you somehow know their Retail main? Because they say they’re posting on an alt?

I mean … other than the fact I specifically say this gal has been my main in game, all most people would know is she is my forum main.

This forum setup is ridiculous. They need to make it so you make a forum name and that’s your name. So many people just act like jerks and then create a new character and no-one knows (well - sometimes people dig around and connect the dots).

Well it’s not like anybody is going to be playing on the character that they’re doing guild recruitment on.

I also once posted on an alt because my main got temp banned on the forums for suggesting two people measure their manhoods elsewhere, and they hadn’t yet fixed the loophole where if banned you could post on another character.

Edit: and I switched from my Shaman to this Paladin at some point cause I wanted to post on my Vanilla Paladin.

If Classic was live, and I was recruiting, I’d definitely be posting on a main.

I completely agree. Too many people post from multiple chars. Those of us who have been around enough can tell them somewhat reliably.
It’d definitely fit in with the theme of classic and reputation.

That wouldn’t solve a lot. Make a new Blizzard account, give each a different name, add a starter account and level to 10, voila’ new forum name.

They thought about this a while back, they WAS gonna make it where your RealID was used for your forums account. Mean you would have to post using your Real Name. That idea maybe lasted about 3 weeks before Blizzard came to their senses.

Also, I know a few posters here that use alts because their mains have been banned from the forums for one reason or another.

I dont have an active account, i had to download the FTP portion and level up to 10 just to take part on the forum!

I’ve seen someone replying to themselves daily to bump their guild recruitment thread and liking their own posts with their alts. I’ve also seen someone posting variations of the same opinion/thread on different alts in the same hour. Some people do it to make it seem like there’s many people wanting X or of Y opinion, while others just use alts to evade a ban.

Sab meant that no one is posting on the character they are going to be playing Classic on because no one can make a character for Classic yet.

Even having played BfA I can safely say: This was literally the worst decision Blizzard ever made to try to use RealID on the forums.

Most people aren’t going to go through the pain of doing that just to troll the forum some more. On top of that - it’s quite easy to tie the forum name into your paying account. Take the person’s paying account, make them put in an account name, when they post - that account name always shows. Start Accounts should only be able to post in technical help forums anyway. The main forums have always been locked down; and Classic will be too when it finally comes out, I’m sure.

People don’t post on their mains because people feel it leads to more accountability for the things they say on a forum.

That’s the dirty truth of it.

I haven’t played for a while and wanted to post here. I leveled a character to 10 to post.

…that’s about it.
