Question regarding Wild Spirits interaction with pets as Beast Mastery (potential bug?)

For the entire expansion I’ve been Venthyr, but seeing as how Venthyr is useless with the set bonus, I decided to finally switch to Night Fae. Because of this, I really don’t know much about the ability as I’ve only been running Wild Spirits for about 2 weeks now. I’ve noticed something about the ability that might be bugged or I’m just reading it wrong.

The ability reads: "Evoke the energy of Wild Spirits at the target location, dealing (25% of Attack power) Nature damage and apply Wild Mark to all enemy targets within the area for 15 sec.

While the Wild Spirits are active, each damaging ability you or your pet use against a target in the area will strike up to 5 nearby targets for (38.5% of Attack power) Nature damage."

There is a part of it that is worded exactly as “each damaging ability you or your pet use against a target in the area…”

I’ve been noticing that pet abilities don’t activate the secondary part despite saying that it should. So I tested it on some training dummies. I cast Wild Spirits, then sent my pets in, and noticed every time they cast Claw, Wild Spirits did not trigger. Here’s a Details! screen shot: https://i.imgur.com/UWCYYk1.png

As you can see in the screen shot, Wild Spirits was cast, dealing it’s instant damage. Then my pest cast Claw (6 times), and Wild Spirits did not trigger as the ability says it should. Does “Claw” not count as a damaging ability my pet can use? If so, perhaps the ability needs to be reworded because it’s confusing (to me at least).

For clarity, here is Wild Spirits no pet and just casting Cobra Shot until Wild Spirits ends: https://i.imgur.com/8l7de0I.png. As you can see, Wild Spirits is working as intended. And here’s Wild Spirits while just casting Kill Command for the duration and claw not on auto-cast: https://i.imgur.com/NTvgAyN.png. Kill Command is a Hunter ability, not a pet one, so it of course is triggering Wild Spirits.

Note for those wondering: on the last screenshot I switched from the AoE dummies to the ST dummy. Which is why the damage might look weird.

So I guess my question is: are Wild Spirits supposed to trigger from pet abilities? Or is my character bugged? Or is the game bugged?

It might be worded in a bad way, but this is how its intended.
Blizzard basically wants one button press to result in one proc of Wild Spirits, the only exclusion would be Aimed with Serpentstalker (which they removed a while ago) and Barbed Shot with Stomp. Both of these proc (or used to proc) Wild Spirits twice with one button press.
Pet basic attacks arent meant to proc Wild Spirits at all.

Then what damaging abilities does my pet do that would trigger Wild Spirits? Considering it’s written in such a way to imply that my pet can perform a damaging ability to trigger Wild Spirits.

Do they mean like Burrow Attack performed by Worms? Or Froststorm Breath performed by Chimaeras? Both are useless because they are channeled.

Edit: just checked Burrow Attack does not trigger Wild Spirits (https://i.imgur.com/rEL79nG.png)

Its triggered by Stomp and KC, if you want to consider this a pet ability.
Also, im not telling you that this makes sense or is worded in a good way. Im just telling you how it is.

I understand. Thanks for the information. I’m just frustrated with the lack of information Blizzard provides sometimes.
