Question on upgrading Crests

So, quick question: Does anybody knows if we can upgrade a Season 1 item with Season 2 crests?

I have a few heroic items that I want to upgrade to mythic using the current Gilded Crests, but those are a little hard to come by through Delves (which is the main PVE I do atm), as they depend on RNG maps… Figured I could just hold on them until we get to Season 2 and Gilded Crests are easier to obtain through harder Delves.

We don’t know for sure, but in seasons past, once the new gear is available, old gear becomes greyed out and can no longer be upgraded.

You should assume every seasonal currency you have on Live will be wiped out the moment you log in to a server on the next season. The draft list of note right now are coffer keys, undercoins, and valorstones. What’s interesting on PTR is that the S1 crests are still there but no way to get more of them. That might be a bug so don’t assume that will persist into Retail.

Starting a new season in the past always meant a reset of all related currencies like crests and flight stones. Also old season gear was locked out from upgrades.

We can expect the same for 11.1, and this means for TWW S2:

a) gear from Dungeons (including m+), Raid and Delves: people need to earn the new flight stones and crests, which can be applied to S2 gear only. Also S2 gear can be upgraded up to the level of existing S1 gear in the same slot for 0 crests and 50% discount of flight stones - so don’t throw away your S1 gear, unless the new S2 has higher item level.

b) crafted gear: crafted items from S1 can be upgraded in S2, which requires sparks and optional enchanted crests from S2. The crafted items will keep their original enchants, but they will lose gem sockets bought from the Great Vault vendor in S1 (important for helmet, bracers and belts).

The catalyst will reset its charges and gain a new charge every 2 weeks, allowing to convert armor into tier set pieces of S2.

Thanks! I just wanted the mythic appearances of some S1 heroic pieces I have… I guess I can do the bountiful delves on the daily to see if I can earn gilded crests before 11.1.

Or maybe I can see if I’m able to find some M+ groups just to get those, but honestly, I’m not a fan of M+ this season.

I don’t personally like it… But I think it’s an effective tool in discontinuing the upgrading of previous seasons gear for this simple reason…

If you want the current seasons transmog gear easily, you need to play that current season.

Meaning you can’t simply skip a season and easily gather up that season transmog gear via upgrading it.

In my head cannon, that is the justification in limiting access to previous seasons gear in incentivising players to play the current game.

Because I for one have for multiple reasons went extremely casual since Legion ended and only really play for aesthetic reasons nowadays lol.

About getting transmogs:

You can upgrade Champion gear to 5/8 to obtain the Hero appearance and upgrade Hero gear to 5/6 for the Myth appearance. Use remaining catalyst charges to convert the non-tier set pieces for missing parts of the class set

The catalyst charges will disappear with the new season anyways, so better use them than waste them.

Yeah, I’m already planning to spend remaining catalyst charges to grab tier pieces. I just need to farm enough gilded crests to upgrade the ones I want to mythic appearance.

I suppose getting into M+8 parties shouldn’t be that hard with a Warlock (the class I specifically want the mythic appearances).

Provided you have Harbinger of the Runed, clearing 7/8 Heroic will net you 75 Runed crests and 15 Gilded crests which is enough for 2 Mythic upgrades and some change. If you can also kill Queen (a bit dicey in pugs) you will end up with 90 Runed and 30 Gilded crests, enough for 4 upgrades.

I find Pug leaders for Heroic Raids tend to be less discriminating compared to Pug leaders for +8s.

Hold up, If I have everything with Ilvl 619, regardless of running M+8 or Heroic Raids, I’ll be able to exchange Runed for Gilded?

Crafted is also an option, too, but yes. The unlocks are tied to having met a minimum ilvl in each slot.

Ah, that may be better for me, as I already have many pieces near that ilvl on my lock. I literally just want the tier gloves and shoes in the mythic color scheme.

Don’t forget that there are also 4 enchanted crests available from the quartermasters, which allow to create gear up to 619. Another one is provided by the quest from Webster in Dornogal (do all the quests and kill Queen Ansurek on any difficulty or in story mode).

This allows to fill gaps and reach 619 in each slot quickly. Afterwards upgrade the remaining crests to guilded for Myth transmogs.
