Question on Mythic plus DPS specs

What spec or specs really are the easiest to play and the fewest things you have to worry about for M+ runs - I want to do M+ eventually but am not that skilled and want to be able to just focus on DPS and have to worry about helping as little as possible…

Yes I get how that sounds :stuck_out_tongue:
Just being real… and yes, I am pretty bad so want as few things to mess up as possible.

Thx

Keep in mind the less useful a spec the less likely groups will want to take you.
That said, if you don’t want to do specific mechanics beyond stuff like kicks, stuns etc probably retribution pally. You don’t have any hard CC, a shroud like a rogue, any aggro drops like a shaman or boogie, no soothes or anything like that to worry about. Not even a group stun, just a ST stun.
Most keys under a 15 this late into a tier don’t require much sophistication for pugs anyway so I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

I’ve seen ret paladins do a very long AoE stun. Unless I’m missing something

Wake on Ashes on undead or demons, but it’s limited to those two types. Other than that they have Repentance, which is basically a casted ranged sap or Blinding Light, an AoE blind. Most Rets go with the talent that reduces the cooldown of their stun, in my experience.

I would recommend venthyr havoc DH, solidly A tier and the most important thing you bring to the group (+5% magic damage to enemies) is applied passively. You will have to trap some mobs and use your stun to stop important casts. I think that’s it.

Just play the dps you’re comfortable with and get better at it. I’d take a competent player over a FoM class

I would do the opposite. Play one spec and just know what’s expected of you. Maybe a class with hero… press that button on the bosses. Only a couple of dungeons when it’s needed on trash pulls, you’ll know that soon. A class with cc… only a few specific mobs need hard cc’ing… you’ll know them soon. Rogue skips… Same. These things are not randomly popping up as you go, you can learn the specific places where you can help. Even with interrupts… I know it can sound bad when people start throwing your lack of interrupts in your face. But fact is a handful of interrupts are essential to a run. Other than that no-one cares. These numbers only come up when an important interrupt is missed.

I know BM is not seen as a great spec but for starting off it’s great. You can remove your own roots, strong mobility and can do rotation while dodging stuff with no downtime.

This alone will make you probably better than other people in low keys, but honestly I’ve even been competing well in 7-13’s as well.

This may seem like an oddball pick compared to others, but frost mage.

your damage rotation is just keep theses frozen orb and blizzard (at 2 or 3 targets+) on cooldown, press ice lance or flurry when they light up, else spam frostbolt.

You’re ranged, so you don’t have as many melee cleaves to worry about, but you do need to cast. blink is an amazing get out of danger free tool, and ice block is a full immunity.

I know no one asked, but can I just say I feel like spriest should get a shroud as well? They’ve always struggled to find shadow a niche in m+ given its long ramp and given how crucial shroud is to many strats plus the fact the stealth is canonically a form of Void magic I feel like it would add some much needed utility.

Destro lock. With the 4p it doesn’t even matter if you’re not good because if you can press rain of fire over and over again you’re set. Ranged gets a free pass in keys too.

Having shroud won’t help them get into pugs. I’d suggest giving them a lot more offhealing utility from vampiric embrace or giving them Brez/lust or even magic damage debuff

Hunter, survival is FoTM and MM is solid, all you have to do is pop bloodlust when needed, trap once in a blue moon (since it breaks on dmg and isn’t very effective for skips, most other classes do crucial CC), MD on tank (can make a macro) and use your interrupts like all others in the group. Also have a stealth you can talent into which is nice, FD, etc.

Fury Warrior hands down

4 button dps rotation, easy to pump good numbers on a fury

Shorts CDs

Good dam

Not crazy strong like sv or destro but you’ll hold your own easily

You’ve got 2 shouts that are useful to the party, a snare one and a hp buff,

Not much is expected of a warrior

Sure you can do a few different things but they’re not hugely impactful anyway

Ez choice

How do you figure?

I feel like moving towards being an off-heal spec is not what people want out of shadow (given how often we’re made to heal). Brez and lust would be fine, but kind of generic. A passive buff doesn’t really work imo just because priests already have passive stam.

Shroud is something people want and it fits really well lore-wise.

I’m not going to debate it but I don’t see any groups in 15 or lower keys looking for rogues for shroud

Who cares about low keys? If your class is viable in high keys you get into low keys fine.

My advice is to learn as a healer. Best way to learn the routes. Pick a shaman if you want to be melee dps or a priest if you want to be ranged/caster dps.

You will have zero expectations besides healing. So you can observe what people are actually doing and learning.

If you want something with more utility and more of a challenge to learn, pick a pally. Healing well as a Paladin is a hard curve for most people. But it’s less complicated because you have such a limited healing palette, especially before you get your 4 piece and double Lego.

The best part is you will be able to get accepted to groups much easier. Start low. Download raiders so you get credit for your runs. Do 5’s up to 10’s get geared to around 250+ then you can start pushing 11+.

I would recommend staying healer as long as possible for a gear and vault unlock perspective, since your time will be spent more in dungeons than waiting for invites, as a dps.

Once you get geared and some raiders, go dps. You will have a much better shot.

You can bang your head against the wall as dps, but as a newcomer it’s going to be an ever frustrating road. At least as a healer, if the group fails, you can instantly get another, and more often luck out with groups that essentially carry you.

Well if they’re going to add utility to shadowpriest, I’d like it to be something most of the community can make use of. They could also bring back void tendrils

Sometimes on alliance there will be a severe healer drought and you can get into +15’s with hardly any gear or experience. Tonight there were quite a few on but I’ve seen times where the LFG is just full of tank and 3 DPS but no healers
