Question on Multi-Boxing

Why?

I’m not pro or con multi-boxing, but I’m just trying to understand the need/fun of it.

Some people (and Blizzard) think it’s awesome to become a credit card warrior if you are terrible at the game but want to kill people in pvp anyway.

to gank people in a group for hours on end without actually having friends.
guess it’s fun enough to be worth the money to some.

I use to multi-box back in my EQ days (like when Kunark first came out), which was a different beast than WoW multi-boxing. In WoW, I use to multi-box, but only 2 accounts (not the 5+ a lot of people talk/complain about), and they were different classes. I usually ran a hunter and a warrior. So it was like I had tanking and a DPS pet. You had to really pay attention to my playing to even notice I was multi-boxing.

My husband, on the other hand, usually ran the same class on a 2 account multi-box. He enjoyed the setting up and figuring it out aspect, and the new challenge it brought to the game play, but he also enjoyed spending hours perfecting his macros. Just what he found fun and enjoyed.

Also during dry spells, when our guild started taking breaks, my husband and I would group with our 4 toons and run dungeons.

A lot of people are going to generalize all multi-boxers with the 25+ PvP multi-boxers slaughter-fest, but there are also those of us that only have 1 or 2 additional accounts and/or don’t do PvP when multi-boxing.

Since its easy to farm up gold with multiboxing, they can play all the accounts for free. But I imagine it to be super boring. I would rather question how legal some of the stuff they can do in game while multiboxing. For instance, they can change formation with a push of a button, that’s tantamount to automated gameplay.

I multiboxed in EQ and never thought I would in WoW. There was no need, as by the point I considered it, we already had LFG.

My son and I have been starting over (almost weekly) and it was driving me crazy. Since I had already paid for my personal accounts and a few for my son, I decided to try it in WoW. It was a new challenge to play. I let him do one character and I did the other 4. We had enough to do dungeons. We had fun. No people being jerks, yelling to fast, too slow, bad dps, etc. It was a lot of fun. Multi-boxing allows a complex playstyle (controlling software and working out your set-up is NOT easy) and a fun way to play the game after you have already hit max level on 20-30 characters in past expansions and maybe hit another 30 or so to level 60.

The issue in WoW with multi-boxers seems to be PvPers who complain about it in PvP. Funny thing is other MMORPG games that have PvP, but it only seems to bother WoW. I dont PvP so I dont care. I wouldnt PvP multi-boxing anyway.

Multi-boxing while leveling can be a great way to level. I wouldnt do it in a dungeon if I could do the dungeon on my own or with my son only. I also would not do it in PvP…

Alright, so for me (and I am a unique case, not many roleplayers that I know do this), I don’t multibox to farm or anything, really. Most I do is some world bosses on many at once to make it faster.

I multibox roleplay by tabbing, talking as one character, then the other, because I find it fun and enjoyable. No idea how I can do that and juggle both, but I guess I can. It’s just a fun thing for me. Most Multiboxers don’t do what I do. I only do it, typically, on 2, but I have 3 accounts I can do it with if there is little movement. You need to have very fast typing speed for that jazz, though.

Is it wrong I want multi-boxing not to gank people, but rather just get a Brutosaur?

I did it back in Wrath so I could solo Dungeons while current just to see if I could, it was also challenging dealing with mechanics on 2-3 toons with just me controlling everything. I enjoyed it a ton but eventually it started getting too much and I got lazy so I dropped down to 1 toon, though I can still to this day call up 4 toons on different accounts at any time.

I still love to push group content while solo, especially Mythic, I just get over geared and use this pally now. Still hard but less complicated.

For most is suspect it is for the simple joy of roffle stomping the world. They can be defeated by good organized groups but are frustrating for most players.

For others they want to rule the economic world and it is a pathway to that.

Some people like eggs loose and some people like them firm…try to explain to someone that is opposite of your feelings why you feel the way you do. That is what you are trying to do, and it’s not easy. But it’s good you at least question why and don’t condemn.

What’s fun for you may not be fun for others. What is fun for others may not be fun for you. Not to hard to understand eh? Discovered over the last few years reading these mutiboxing threads it boils down to jealousy. I cant afford to run more than one account, or don’t have, or cant afford a gaming rig to do it, so that means nobody should be allowed to multibox lol.

Used to multi-box back in the EQ days but that was mainly to help powerlevel alts. My main was a cleric and I could play my melee and auto-follow the cleric and heal as needed. Never had the need or desire in wow

There is an alliance multi-boxer on Sargeras that shockingly hangs out with Ruin Gaming. He must have 30+ accounts. It’s hilarious. Dude legit spends more money on this game per month than I do on every bill I have combined plus my mortgage.

Multiboxing, as far as I know, is just a way to abuse the game/players, And make ludicrous amounts of gold via gathering (thus paying for all your accounts) and watching your PayPal balance go up.

Scum, all of them and I grief them on sight. Sadly i haven’t seen many/any on area52

I can see there is a fair amount of animosity toward the multi-boxing game play. I have played wow for a while and have seen a few of them. Even participated in a bg where the majority of the team was one group. I just don’t understand the appeal.

Thank you for answering my question and helping me learn a little more about this style of game play.
