Question on mastery

So I started paladin for prot and tanking high keys but kind of fell in love with ret. I play a couple of tanks so I can’t keep up with two sets of “optimal” gear so I’ve been gearing haste>crit=vers>mastery. Ilevel trumping it all. I do sim but sometimes it’s like 35dps increases so I then look at what’s important to Prot.

A 440 prot tank in my guild pointed to rings that were haste mastery. I’m starting into the 19-20s and was wondering how critical will mastery be because frankly it’s not good for ret. I’m running a high haste crusading strikes build and yes, not optimal but I find it closer to my previous DH demon blades build and like it better.

Tdlr; tier gear has mastery, critical for prot or good with high haste and then ilevel for 20+ keys

Playing the spec well should be your focus before trying to min/max secondary stats. Just use what you have until you get more haste/mastery gear to make a more complete prot set.

Ok, sounds good. So haste>mastery>crit=vers? Or haste=mastery.

I ask because I do a lot of mythic+ and can save some hero mastery rings neck etc. The tier gear has a good amount of mastery.

Edit: looking at your gear, as a 2900 prot, doesn’t appear your stacking mastery but definitely stacking haste as the primary stat. Ok that helps.

Haste has been the preferred stat than mastery because more haste helps you get back into sentinel faster through CDR talents.

Just play around with the stats and see what feels best for you, stats won’t make you play better. Practice and patience will make you play better then you can focus more on stats if you want.

At what % and/or Rating does Haste diminishing return factor kick in.
