Question on gear priority

So after taking a break from WoW it only took me one dungeon to make a faux pas.

I’m tanking Strat live on my druid trying to get pre-raid bis geared. There’s a rogue in the group in full T2 who’s pretty much doing most of the heavy lifting. We get to the cannon boss and the Shadowcraft Shoulders drop.

The shoulders I had been wearing had no agility on them and also had a sub par armor value, so this Shadowcraft piece was a massive upgrade for me. Not paying attention, and making the assumption that the rogue wouldn’t need them given that he has full T2, I need them and equip them. I realized moments later that the rogue also needed them, and he promptly left the group after my mistake.

I feel pretty bad about the whole thing, and if I had been paying attention I wouldn’t have rolled against the rogue.

This got me wondering though, when rolling on dungeon sets, does the class for which it is designed always take priority, or are there cases where other classes are justified in rolling on them?

Tier 0.5 is phase 5 bis before obtaining aq loot so the only reason he even went was to get shadow craft to upgrade into t 0.5, whereas your prebis shoulders as a feral tank is something you can solo farm out of ST. Yeah I’d be hella pissed too.

If he didn’t ask to have the item placed on reserve before hand that’s his own fault. It’s a pug with group loot and you needed in an item you needed.

If it was a guild run, or he had mentioned before hand that he needed, or was a group of friends… that would be different. But this was a pug and you needed in an upgrade. The rogue was just sour, you did nothing wrong.

I wouldn’t even worry about it, he didn’t communicate by the sounds of it, it wouldn’t have been hard for him to have put a few words into the chat stating that he was after them.

I would default to the class they were designed for. I always ask before needing to make sure everyone knows my intention. I had a warlock swipe my magisters robes out from under me on a UBRS run.

The assumption one is entitled to loot it hilariously. However, I feel we may only be getting half the story and only your side of that story. Was there any pre-run agreement for loot to be reserved? If there was then either you knew and ignored or you didn’t know and he failed to inform you. And as became the norm over the year in retail people will leave groups when their one piece of loot they want is gone. It’s why I rarely pug dungeons or 20m raids.

Lets also add agility doesn’t mean it’s great for you as a feral tank. As a fellow feral tank I’ll sometimes have on the Truestrike Shoulders for hit for threat. The Taut Dragonhide Shoulderpads off Chromaggus have no agility, but are good tanking shoulders. The ones you took are good especially if you’re wearing a quest green or something worse, but don’t equate agility to good. It’s our best tanking stat with stamina, but it’s not the end all be all deciding factor when selecting the tank gear you wear.

I usually do not equip items till after the dung/raid to prevent this from happening.

Dungeon gear isn’t tradeable anyway.

If the Rogue asked for you to pass you’d have to pass, considering your pre-raid BiS is much better and more easily farmed than shadowcraft.

That said, he didn’t say anything. It was an upgrade, you hit “Need”, because you NEEDED it, and won the roll.

It’s like the savage gladiator chain: most hunters would be happy to pass on them if there’s a warrior in the party (the warrior will, in fact, most likely offer some kind of compensation) as they can replace it with many raid items, but if the warrior doesn’t say anything the Hunter is expected to hit “Need” if it is an upgrade for him.

It isn’t your job to keep track of what every single party member needs.

If rogue needed he should of needed then. And if he did well he lost the roll. shrug

Need if you need it, end of story and dont feel bad.

If it’s an upgrade and you’ll actually use it, need. If he’s in full T2 and raging over 5 man shoulders, lol.

No, there was no prearrangement or reservations made. In fact I don’t think the rogue said anything during the whole run, unless I am mistaken. I was the one who formed the group so there is no risk of there being a reservation without my knowledge.

Also, I really appreciate the gearing tips! I’m confident that they were a big upgrade from my old shoulders, but yeah I think you are right in that there are better pieces.

If he didn’t whisper you and ask to reserve it, or say he was there specifically for that one item, I wouldn’t fret. It’s massive for him in P5, sure; but it’s not your job to know other classes BiS every phase. Plus he didn’t tell you he was there for it. Keep doing you man.

Some people are still collecting the t0 dungeon sets aimed at their class for the t0.5 upgrade quest that is coming in future patch. The Rogue could have communicated his intentions better, since those t0 dungeon sets are not class-specific like raiding sets & a variety of class/specs can use them effectively.

i need gold, does that mean i should hit need on everything to sell it? thats what im getting from all these “if you need it hit need” responses.

does the energy restore even work for cat druids?

if i was the only rogue in the group, i wouldnt see the need to mention or reserve shadowcraft (unless a huntard was the group cause you know)

I just see some people trying feral tanking for the first time and gravitating towards everything with agility on it. I like a bit of strength for extra threat.

If you can get out and get into a group running Silithus abyssal drops go for it! I want those shoulders badly, but no luck so far.

If you want something reserved you mention it. Period. This isn’t a discussion. You’re assuming everyone knows the gear you want. Say something or keep quiet when others need on gear you want.
