Question on Classic Era

Hi all- have a quick question on classic era and if blizz has communicated on this- what are the plans, if any, on classic era ? Will it always be a fully progressed vanilla server? Do they plan to make any changes to it? I ask because I actually never had the chance to level a character from a pure vanilla perspective and while I’m playing on SOD now, I’d like to return to Era to do that some time. Is there a reason to have FOMO over era or will it always be there to return to? Thank you!

You can never count on anything always being there. That’s in game and beyond. However if you are playing Sod you are not missing much. It’s just era with a few runes that make various equipment work better.

But if you want to play era just roll and go.

As far as we know it’s supposed to be a “forever server” stuck on phase 6 of fully progressed vanilla wow.

I’ve been playing on it since TBC started (had no interest in xpacs personally) and so far that’s mostly been the case.

However, they have shown willingness to change things here. Chronoboons, which technically were introduced before TBC, are a thing.

More notably, they revamped the PVP system in a dramatic and non trivial way. They’ve also merged the client with the current retail client, which SoD shares, so we’ve got a new menu UI and a bunch of accidental bugs that were introduced when merging all versions of wow to a single client.

Sadly they have not been attentive to these bugs (like C’Thun and his drunk and haphazard dark glare for example) and continue to show we are the lowest priority.

That being said, it’s a great time to play Era and I wouldn’t let that stop you. I love that we’re full progressed and I can play on my own time without feeling “rushed to keep up”.

Whitemane and Mankirk are the most populated severs

Yessir! And while Whitemane and Mankirk are the two primary clusters, Grobbulus is a fun alternative as it’s unclustered. It’s what I call a “micro server” (we aren’t dead!).

We have Legacy on the alliance side (Legacy & Tales from Naxxramas: Four Horsemen defeated) currently 13/15 Naxx progression, and we have Requiem on the horde side who has been working on MC and BWL. There’s also a reroll campaign happening now if leveling new is of interest to you

Do you happen to have any quotes from blizz saying that era will be a “forever” server? Has Blizz spoken recently about their ideas or mindset around era?

I’d hate to start and find out that massive changes are happening to the game or if they decide to just shut it down- I know I’m an anxious mess on this but was just wondering- thank you

I’m surprisingly struggling to find an official blue post or blog from blizzard explaining Classic Era. But I think it’s safe to say, as it’s been around since 2021, that they plan to maintain it into the future! IIRC the idea was a “museum” that preserved the original wow indefinitely.

The feel of the sun on your skin and earth under your feet

That’s all there in sod, it’s just that your gloves and pants are enchanted.

What do you mean? Chronoboons were never in the game until they introduced them in classic.

Legacy 15/15 as of last night!

Eye of the Dead, Face of Death, Kingsfall, Doomfinger, Warrior and Warlock T3 rings, and Sargiel (warlock) completed our first Atiesh with the KT kill!

Well they kept it which is a good call, as it allows them to latch onto trends like hc and sod. Not sure if they will keep it forever but higher chance for it than tbc or wrath at the moment.
