Question for you all

As the title states I have a question for all the rogues out there. I am currently an Alchemist/Herbalist and my skill isn’t maxed in either. I was thinking about switching to black smithing so I can make my own weapons. Currently that is my big issue on all my characters is getting weapons with the right stats and so forth which is why I was thinking about going Blacksmithing so I can make my own weapons.

Any thoughts also please I know someone will say just go whatever profession you want. But I would rather have a conversation.

I mean, you could literally just level an alt to 70, and get the max profession points needed to make the weapon you want in about a day. You don’t -have- to ditch your professions and start again.
At least alchemy gives you 2h flasks.

The epic bs weapons are Bind on pickup. My Alchemy skill is 0 so I haven’t even started it yet just been gathering herbs.

you can just send crafting orders to your alts though.
And once you have those weapons, I’m not sure what purpose BS serves specifically. It’s not like you’d need to make that many of them.

I have never sent a crafting order to any of my characters I wouldn’t even know how. And I can always recraft the daggers to keep them updated to the highest lvl. I don’t plan on raiding due to RL and the fact that the guild I was in imploded and hasn’t raided in several expansions. so it is literally the m+ grind and pvp is what I have left to me until something in my RL changes.

You just select the item you want your alt to craft and send it as a personal order at the crafting table. You’re probably going to need to figure out how crafting orders work at some point anyway as you can’t craft everything you’re likely to want just by yourself. I just have an alt with each profession and crafted everything myself.
So if that’s your sole reason for considering swapping to BS then my personal opinion is no, you can just as easily craft your own weapons and still keep the extended flask duration from alchemy, and I think it’s also probably a better source of gold.

But since professions are pretty trivial anyway and fairly quick to level them, overall, just pick whichever one you want. It’s not that much of a crucial decision tbh.

And will recrafting work the same?

Yeah, and if you do it yourself you don’t have to go through the hassle of finding someone to recraft it at max level. Dealing with that nonsense in DF is why I vowed never to never again rely on other people and just do them all msyelf.

See thats how I feel as well but it was the sending of items that were bop to myself that was giving me the issues. As well as figuring out the crafting mats and how to get them sent over. I wish blizzard would make the bop items just be war bound so you can put them in your warbound bank and do what you need with them instead of having to do crafting orders and what not. But hey that is just me

I would keep alchemy. It doesn’t need to be maxed to get the bonus duration for flasks (15 points iirc). Even if you never make a flask for yourself, for friends, or to sell for profit, you gain a nice little QoL perk that can save you gold.

If you are a dagger rogue, there is very little competition for weapon drops this season.

If you want the highest iLvl you can get and you know you won’t be raiding Mythic bosses for a while, you can get someone else to craft whichever weapons you use.

The mats are the expensive part, the tip is nothing compared to the price of the mats, and any tips you earn crafting for others might not pay back the cost to level the profession.

EDITED TO ADD:
You don’t need to craft BoP items yourself. You can put in a crafting order, someone else makes it, and it gets mailed directly to you.

I am an assassination rogue. My problem is getting the weapons to drop. that is my issue which is why I was thinking about going bs to make my own weapons that way I can control their stats and what not. Nothing sucks more than finally getting a weapon drop for it to have stats that do not help you at all.

Why cant you just use missives to set the stats in your public crafting order?

I have never crafted anything for PVE, but with PVP items I have been adding algari missive of the hormonious to get vers / mastery for example. Gives an even split of stats.

If you have multiple characters, it’s probably worthwhile to level blacksmithing on one of them. Doesn’t have to be your rogue. I wouldn’t invest the effort just for one character.

I will say Herbalism and Alchemy is what I do and have no regrets.

The other thing you can do is take Herbalism and Mining. Spend a few hours farming each week and sell everything. Make enough gold to pay for crafting whatever you need.

You’d have to do crafting orders to your blacksmithing toon from your other toons.

I think the OP does not understand the public crafting system.

Bind on Pickup is for the person putting up the order, not the BS making it. There is absolutely no advantage to being a BS yourself. And absolutely no need to be a BS yourself. Maybe aside from not having to tip yourself for making weapons, but levelling BS will cost far more gold than whatever you decide to tip crafters for orders.

Just make a public crafting order for whatever weapon you want, with the perfect stats and embellishments.

Yes that is what I meant using Missives to make my weapons with the stats I want them to have.

I will be honest I did not. My guild imploded right before the 2nd raid of SL and I have been casual ever sense. Just doing instances and mythic and M+ when I can.

As I stated my biggest issues is getting weapons to drop. That has always been my major issue. I still have herb and alch on my rogue. I did not know you could send a work order to myself. until it was mentioned on this thread. Now I do now its just gathering what I need for my weapons and getting the blacksmithing knowledge to unlock what I need unlocked

You don’t even need to do it yourself was my point. I wouldn’t bother levelling blacksmithing just to get weapons crafted, any other blacksmith with that skill can make them for you.

I knew about work orders problem is my server is more alliance than horde so its hard to find a crafter. and not to pay a big sum for it.

I see. That’s challenging.

Maybe try a public order. If no one picks it up after a day or so then you might be stuck having to make it yourself.

Yea been thinking about trying alliance Characters seeing how it is on the other side.
