I would like to craft a new 2H sword. My BS is maxed out and so is my Weaponsmithing tree for Long Swords. Using rank 1 mats the recipe difficulty is at 510. My skill is at 330. I am guaranteed to craft a rank 3 sword. How much skill would I gain by using rank 3 mats vs rank 1? Don’t think it would be enough to push me to rank 4. I would end up using concentration to get me there. If the rank 3 materials are not going to push me to the next rank is it worth using them and how will it affect the recraft if I initially only use rank 1 materials?
Is there some kind of calculator or addon for all this? Thanks for responding.
You’re looking for the addon craftsim. You can sim basically any combination of mats and see where you’re going to end up so you can plan accordingly
Here is the calculation:
Multiply the base difficulty by 40%. This is the bonus skill provided by materials at R3. The base difficulty is the difficulty you see on the craft when there’s no missives embellishments and crests.
Materials at rank 2 will give 20% of the base difficulty.
Add the points you have from base profession skill (hopefully 100)
Add the points from your knowledge tree for that craft
Add the bonus points for tools and accessories. It’s 18 points for all green tools and 40 points for all blue tools.
If the resulting value is 80% of the total difficulty (base difficulty + extras like missives, embellishments and crests) then you get a R4 craft.
If the resulting value is 50% of the total difficulty you get R3.
If the resulting value is 20% of the total difficulty you get R2.
Anything less is R1. And ofc you need 100% for R5.
I did the same thing, with a Polearm going down the hafted side of the tree.
I went from being able to do between a Rank 3 and 4 weapon, to a assured rank 5 weapon with missive and embellishment without using Concentration by using rank 3 mats.
Weapon difficulty after customization was 525, and I had 531 without any finishing reagents and with only having two blue crafting tools. Was able to craft a 606 Polearm without issue.
