Question about thunderfury bindings

Hey, I have a question for people that have successfully farmed Thunderfury:

Can both of the bindings drop regardless of whether you’ve started the quest?

Once my main got one half to drop, I started the quest, which of course tells you to get the other half. Once I saw how the quest was going to go (I’d never looked into Thunderfury before) it occurred to me that I could just throw the sword bearing members of the alt army at it, and now that I have the enchanted bars alliance side, just mail it to whoever got both first, and have them complete the quest.

I now have a bunch of characters with one binding or the other, so I know either can drop pre-quest. I’d just like to confirm that both can drop pre-quest.

Thanks in advance for any helpful replies!

You can get both bindings before accepting any quest - there are some lucky people who got both in the same run.

They’re rng drops regardless of your quest status I think.

Can confirm that info

Leveled like 8 death knights from 58-80 to help farm them

Did somebody say…

yep… but i’d stop farming with horde characters if you’ve got the bars on alliance side.

Yells Thunderfury Blessed Blade of the Windseeker!

Oh absolutely! I have 25 alliance 120s and all the sword bearing ones are on the job!

Thanks all for your helpful responses.

Even after you complete the quest chain you can get those bindings. I have them on my warrior that did the quest. All I was after was the warrior transmog for T1. But no, I get the bindings twice before I got the last pieces. RNG is really weird at times.
I think I have both bindings on this character as well… but that was because I was farming for the eye of Sulfuras. I have bindings on other characters but only one or the other. i swear those things drop way way more often in the last year or so than before.
