Since Shadowlands have the requirements for tagging mobs in combat changed? When I’m the first to attack a mob, after inflicting damage on it, often a player of the opposing faction who comes along after my attack is underway and attacks the same mob captures the tag, I see the bar go from red to white, and that player gets the kill and any drops, not me. I don’t remember this happening prior to Shadowlands.
How does that mechanic work? Has it been changed? Thanks in advance.
This has happened to me several times, although not recently. My best guess is that it is a bug.
That is for sure a bug, they added ‘faction’ tapping so you can help others of your own faction but other faction should show greyed out. You may want to put in a bug report on the bug report forum.
Upto 5 people can have a tag on a mob, of the same faction. You can extend that using a 4x4 dual group farming method for things.
If your in a popular farming area, like for a tmog set or a mount, chances are you might just get unlucky in that the mob was red for you then by the time your cast actually hit it the farming groups already tagged it.
This can happen wether its same faction or not cause mob tags are limited. Only exception is world boss elites.

This isn’t what OP is referring to. What OP is talking about is you can have a few hits on a mob and the other faction can still steal your tag, even in a 1v1 situation.
From what I observed before, it almost looked like there’s some sort of small window when a mob is engaged, and whichever faction does the most damage within that window gets the tag. This has gone on since at least 9.1 dropped. Only way I’ve found to stop it is to simply keep hitting the mobs since a simple tap to tag or taunt is no longer sufficient.
I suspect this isn’t a bug and instead a way to keep one bot person from rounding up an entire area.

As someone that plays tanks, this is how I do leveling / farming as it’s better to have more mobs on me than less as then I’m taking more damage etc. to kill faster. Quicker to level as tank with large groups that take forever to kill.
It’s not an issue if you’re constantly doing damage from what I’ve seen, but you’ll start to run into problems if you’re just going around spamming glaive throw just to tag mobs. I personally think it’s a good change to help combat the Starfire spamming chicken bots that run laps around zones and would keep everything for themselves.

Thank you, that’s exactly what I’m talking about. I don’t farm anything, this is daily quest related combat of regular mobs in Korthia, the Maw, and on Kyria, Maldraxxus, et al within Shadowlands. I see it particularly when I’m casting spells as opposed to close-up sword attacks. Glaive throw isn’t sufficient to hold the tag after the mob has taken damage from me. It happens on all three toons I’ve leveled in Shadowlands, warlock, DK, and DH.
Someone has said it seems like a bug since certain changes were made to inhibit farmers from snagging a bunch of mobs at once. That seems plausible so I’ll report it as a bug for whatever good it does. Thanks again to those who offered their input.
