Just stop using it and use Details. Times change, sometimes you just gotta do something else. I havent been able to use BigDebuffs since DF dropped. Its definitely caused me some issues. But life goes on. I make due with other addons.
Details suxxorz. Recount is the progamer’s addon of choice.
If you’re the programmer of Recount, this is probably right
I’m looking at the task manager and that doesn’t seem to be it. WoW is using the most (currently at 16% CPU and 3800 Memory - 65%). I have 8 gigs of ram and my processer is good, computer is a gaming computer that’s well taken care of and always up to date and virus free. Not sure what randomly caused all the damn lag (and by all, I mean loading now takes 5 seconds instead of instantly but it’s enough to annoy me).
I can totally buy TSM being the problem. I’ve always had issues with it and prefer not to use it for that (among other) reasons. But it’s something to keep an eye on when things start acting wonky. I’ve also seen people talk about steam updates killing performance–basically anything that requires your CPU to do a lot of work (like encoding game data onto a hard drive) can make you feel like you’re lagging, so it’s something to check if you’re having issues.
That is strange. I haven’t had that happen. I’ve used Skada for a decade with a week or two of using Details during the DF prepatch (never again! I hated using Details). I use TSM as well, although not all of it (mostly the tooltip and the mail interface). Do you have the Skada DF compatibility fix installed? It’s version 1.8.4. I just checked and it looks like the website on Curse has 1.8.4. I had to download it from GitHub early in the DF prepatch.
Here’s the addon page on Curse: https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/skada

what does this statement mean?
It’s like when I got scored an 18 on my math test. I reported the number to my mom as an 81.
Same numbers, just reported differently
Well, allegedly (according to both the authors of Details and Skada), the damage and healing numbers presented end up being the same, but the recording of the numbers start and end at different times (for instance, Details will continue recording before and after you die, whereas Skada will only record when you first attack and stop when you die). Details has way more functionality, but according to the authors the actual damage number presented are the exact same.
I’m not a scientist so I don’t know if that’s true or not, but I also don’t care. I raid Normals and barely even that. I was just trying to figure out why my computer was lagging in wow all of the sudden.
This is all a great answer. Thanks for taking the time to type it all out.
8gb of ram is pretty low nowadays. I mean right now with WoW open and some tabs I’m sitting at 10.5gb used. I imagine your running WoW on very low settings and with nothing open, but I can see why ram useage might matter on addons when you have that little.
You using an old laptop?
The real issue with their method, and the reason I describe bluntly as “wrong” is that it skews up the DPS numbers for players who start attacking late or who die. If you die half way through a fight, it’s completely irrelevant what your DPS was for the time you were alive–so why show that? The combat time is the lodestar divisor for total damage to determine DPS. That’s why it’s so much more popular than the alternatives–the numbers are just more actionable.
That could be part of the issue, as 8 GB is low if you want to run wow and other processes.
Why memory use can cause lag in low memory systems is that the OS will resort to using “virtual memory”, which is where it uses your hard drive to store things that are usually in ram. This substantially increases access time, and can bottleneck your processor/gpu, making them unable to deliver their peak performance because they are stuck waiting for the info their next instruction or data required to perform their current instruction.
I actually just looked and I have 16 gigs of ram installed, not 8. It’s a gaming PC that’s only a little over 3 years old now.
Yeah, I thought I had 8 but I have 16g lol never looked before
Fixing to say I dunno how you even run the game with 8 lol.
Have you actually tried shutting off addons 1 by 1 to see if its actually details? If you got 16gb of ram, honestly the ram requirements is of no concern.
Ironically, removing TSM didn’t help much. The only other addon that I am using that could be causing the loading lag would be DBM? Is that a memory hog at all?
Are you 100% sure it is an addon causing it?
have you tried with no addons enabled and does it still lag?
I dont feel like this is a memory issue, but I would disable DBM, too.
I would just disable everything, and re-enable 1 by 1. If you still got lag with nothing running, you know its not an addon.
OP,
Try uninstalling all the meter addons. I found the game much more enjoyable without them.
Until xmas this year i was playing on an 8gb laptop and it HURT! People would summon me to a m+ dungeon and my load time was so long when i finally loaded in there would be a wall of messages from the group asking if i was still there. It was absolutely brutal.
you have to mean recorded. you’ve just stated that they are presented differently.
