how can i tell which damage is range damage ?which damage i should cast feint
iirc Feint reduces AoE damage.
some damage i am not sure if it is ,like fire on the floor
Anything that can affect more than one person. So yes, fire one floor
I’d love to say I actually use this skill and use it well but….yeah it’s collecting dust.
Requires a certain amount of skill that I clearly lack.
How about dot for everyone
In general no, Feint does not work for dots or ground effects that are already on the ground unless you take Elusiveness however to do so you have to lose Cheat Death which you’re not going to do in PVE content. Pretty much anything that does AOE can be Feinted + targeted AOE.
For example you can Feint the dragons in both Halls of Infusion and Vortex Pinnacle which reduces the initial damage but the dot will still tick for full; a general use would be the third boss of Halls and second boss of Vortex where Feint applies to the constant ticking damage. Example of targeted aoe would be the last boss of Vortex that puts the Chain Lightning circle on a random player. There’s some exceptions to the dot rule but it’s situational like last season the final boss of Temple of the Jade Serpent puts a dot on players but it’s also flagged as an AOE ability allowing Feint to work against it.
TLDR; You pretty much just have to play around with it until you realize everything it works against. Evasion can also be used against some Physical AOE attacks in the same way though it’s very hit or miss on what it works against. An example would be the 3rd boss of Uldaman when he does his stomp attack Evasion allows you to completely avoid the damage and knockback from it.
Here’s my opinion.
I use Feint whenever I know there is incoming damage. If works and mitigates some of the damage, great. If it fails, it doesn’t matter. The damage was going hit me anyway.
honestly feint has such a short cd iirc that trial and error-ing it doesnt hurt
not really… when in doubt, hit it
It really is that simple. I wish it wasnt on the GCD but it would be way too strong.
I mean a very short cooldown wall that works against MOST forms of damage you’ll take is already bordering on “too strong” especially when you take into account the rest of Rogue’s defensive toolkit.
Mostly AoE splash damage that you can’t stand in. Perfect example of it would be explosive if it was still in the game.
