Question about raid UI's

Was wondering if using the default UI for mythic raids or raiding in general is frowned upon?

Each video I watch, the healers are using a custom UI like ElvUI.

I’ve gotten comfortable with the default.

Not frowned on per say. It just that using different addons will increase movement efficiency and present information in a easier to understand format.

mouse over macros allow you to reduce the amount of button pushes.
Having player frames by your characters feet reduces the amount of eye movement needed to check you health. Meaning an increased reaction time in using defensive cd’s.
Using a healing addon can present hots buffs debuffs dispels and aggro in a manner you find easier to read because you decide how its presented.

for the most part for a long time addons are pretty much required to join a lot of peoples raids or guilds even.

People use some addons because they need plastered in their faces what they need to do, when to press which button, and etc.

Regular UI, you have all the info you need to do any raid. And with your group in tune with one another, you never need addons. Addons are like those small wheels kids put in bicycles.

Unless you think “stay away”, or “run to the corner”, or “dont look” are too hard of a tell to know what to do. Or that if the boss say “stand still while I kill you” is too much of a puzzling thing for you to know what to do.

DBM is near mandatory. Grab it.

As far as full UI overhauls go? Nah. Sometimes they’re useful for putting information in areas that don’t require darting your eyes around the screen, but it’s hardly a necessity.

Hell, even Mouseover macros for healers aren’t a necessity.

6/12M - 7/12M this week and I still use default as tank

DBM is one of those things you see people paddling like supplements in gyms.

You might not even know exactly why you use it, but some people will tell you to.

Many people will tell you to use it because they think you are too bad to do without it, but they themselves dont use it.

Had participated in very technical guild runs and the group never used it. And the one pugged person with us once was a hindrance because of it.

If you really know how to do the encounter, you barely even need a UI at all.

ELVUI is popular because it allows you to move your entire UI around to suit you. The native interface for healing is terrible.

Aside from that I use weakauras to track cooldowns and mouseover macros.

Now that we’ve heard from the LFR heroes let’s get back to some serious discussion.

Oh yes they are. Try playing a holy paladin, disc priest, druid or monk without them, you will lose a lot of time.

LFR heroes … lol

That is new … wait …that is not.

If it was possible for you to see all my characters even in this account, you would see I did both Mythic and Normal of all current content. Most of it with my guild, in which many people does it because we find it very easy and people often get the people who are starting to teach them how to raid, so most of them have normal and mythic.

As I know you cant see characters from one another, or achievements that would tell you this, your argument is just as bogus as what say about addons.

There’s a couple tricks a raid frame addon for healer can help. Do you need one? no, but tracking some debuffs and others can be harder. So it’s all about if you feel that your UI gives enought information for what you’re doing, if you’re lost or feel like you’re missing info at times maybe you can use addons/wa to help.

You can see feats of strengh those are account wide.

Nope.

Blue Quote:

It sounds like you might’ve enabled the in-game option to only show Character Achievements, which does change the Armory’s display too

You can find it under Interface > Social when logged in, make sure the “Display Only Character Achievements to Others” option is turned off. One thing to note, however, is that the Armory doesn’t quite update in real time, and may take a few days to show that change

Ui is very personal. what works for me might not work for you.

I personally think the default ui is awful. I think it’s important to have critical information in my line of sight, not tucked away in the corners of my screen.

But that’s me, and tucked away might work perfectly well for someone else.

Be open to trying new things though, because sometimes a simply UI tweak can make a huge difference in performance.

This might be new, I’m not aware of that feature or if it works for feats, but you’re still missing the main point. The lack of proof is on your side still. I have been inspecting people feats for a while on forums because people have used likes on their alts to try to make a point time to time.

I’m fairly certain feats of strength are account wide.

Seems like that option in the game do hide most achievements and feats that your character hasn’t earned himself if you use it. I just tested it on a character of mine.

I think it might be a new thing.

I mained holy Paladin back when eternal flame blanketing was a thing just fine. Got invited to heal for “mythic” guilds a couple times too. No one had any complaints about my healing.

You cannot play a glimmerdin without at least holy shock on mouseover.

The point of a ui is to give you infomation. I don’t think the default ui does a good job of that personally but if you are comfortable with it then more power too you.

What I will suggest though is trying everything to see if it works for you.
For example I have my raid frames bottom mid under my character but I tried having them on the left of my character bit my eyes seem to go up and down better than left and right.

Just try stuff out and see how it feels.

You… realize spells have GCDs right? You don’t need the extra reaction time of a mouseover unless you’re sitting around hitting no buttons waiting for something to happen (because then the GCD wouldn’t be active and the time you saved not swapping targets might be noticeable).

I’m not saying mouseovers aren’t convenient. Just that they’re not at all necessary.

Good luck playing disc without dbm telling you when to ramp. You’ll be the spud healing the raid through things with shadow mend instead of having your 20 atonements out like the priest next to you with dbm.
