Hi there. I live in Norway and I started working night shifts from 8 PM to 4 AM CET over here.
I was thinking about raiding on US because of this, because when I get home at 4 AM it’s right during raid times in the US. That is mostly for people living on the West Coast I guess.
Do people on the west coast raid in their own guilds as CST or EST might be too early for people on the west coast? Or do they simply adjust and raid earlier?
4 AM for me is 7 PM on the west coast so that fits perfectly.
I’m EST (Toronto) and raid with a PST (west coast US)) guild, but why not just join a Euro guild especially as night shifts likely won’t be forever? What’ll happen when those end? Transferring from US realms to European ones isn’t that easy.
And Spodge brings up a good point… the lag’ll be killer, especially on raid encounters with a lot of mechanics / adds, etc, and that may affect your standing, but it also might not… it depends on your ip / region. We had a Euro player joining us from Switzerland weekly and she was unaffected so, it can definately work!
Running around in Mulgore now with 100 MS so it doesn’t seem to be a lot of an issue. Not sure if MS changes in raid encounters.
I would like to join a night raiding guild, but how many of those are there on my realm here? I guess like almost 0? Is that even a thing with night raiding guilds?
I raid with a team that runs from 10 PM to 1AM EST (our realm time is EST based.)
Half of the team members live on the West Coast, and for them the raid time is 7 PM to 10 PM PST.
I live in Japan so my raid time is 12 noon to 3 PM.
The lag isn’t all that bad, but we mainly raid Heroic… if you’re very serious about raiding and planning to Mythic raid, you might want to find a raiding team in your own region (EU).
I see that you’re from Mal’Ganis, which is one of the biggest realm Horde side with many raiding teams, so it shouldn’t be an issue finding a guild that fits your preferred raiding time.
Bookmark those and take a look through there for what guilds / players advertise and see what piques your interest! Who knows, perhaps those familiar toons that you always see at the AH (or dancing on mailboxes) might be posting there!
I realized the same and shifted to a heroic minded guild myself, and am much happier with the time requirements, ease of play and more free time for other things that i’m able to do in game and out! It’s a good thing!
100 MS is actually better than what I have, so you should be fine for Heroic raiding.
Aside from your realm forum, the new and improved Guild Finder in game is also a very useful tool to find guilds - we list our raiding times on there so people can see what times we raid before they decide to join us.
Best wishes on finding a good team!
If you just started playing wow, I’d roll on the region you plan to live in. Keep in mind that if you’re building up Pathfinders, Allied Races, transmogs, mounts, purchased expansions, etc… None of that transfers over if you ever change your mind in the future and would rather play on wow’s Europe servers.
I picked mine because it’s an RP server and it’s Pacific timezone. We have an active enough raiding guild population and pretty much every guild that raids also does mythic plus. There are also lots of Australians and people from New Zealand too. We’re like 53/47 Horde to alliance ratio.
