I’m hoping someone could please help me because I’m lost. I’m just coming back to the game and trying to gear up in Dragonflight. I don’t run mythics or raids. Casual BM Hunter player here. I plan on leveling up my gear through this new ‘place work order’ system which I am having trouble with. perhaps after placing my first few orders I’ll get the hang of it, but my first order is a big one (for me anyway) and I don’t want to throw away gold or ‘sparks’.
I want to place a work order for a bow called Bow of the Dragon Hunters. I want it to be the highest iLvl obtainable with what I have in my bank and what I can buy on the AH. This is what I have so far:
- 6 Awakened Air
- 2 Tallstrider Sinew
- 2 Runed Writhebark (all 3 gold stars)
- 10 Mireslush Hides (all 3 gold stars)
For the two sparks I am using two of these:
- Spark of Dreams (“Set starting item level based on crafting quality (450-463)”)
Now, there are three optional reagents I can add at the bottom. This is what’s throwing me. What (if anything) do I add to these three slots? Is there an item I can buy off the AH or may even have in my inventory (like more sparks) that will boost the iLvl of my bow even higher? Or maybe these three optional reagent slots are just for other buffs and secondary stats? I think I saw something on the AH called Shadowflame-Tempered Armor Patch (3 gold stars) which boosts my DPS. Should I buy three of those and add them all to my purchase order?
- Is there anything else I need to do to ensure my bow is the highest iLvl?
- How much should I tip my provider?
- What specifically should I add to the three optional reagent slots?
Thanks to any and all who responds. I know there are a lot of guides out there for this, but I’m worried about losing my sparks and gold and not getting what I am hoping for.

Hi! So for the bow of the dragon hunter, the three slots are as follows:
- a missive (purchaseable off the ah). this will allow you to choose the secondary stats you want on your bow. You can craft a bow without one but the stats will be randomized, so you should look for a crit/haste missive off the ah. the higher quality the missive, the easier it makes your bow to craft at max level, so try to use a three star missive if you can.
- an embellishment (also purchaseable off the ah). this will allow you to have an extra effect on your bow. here’s a list of available embellishments on wowhead:

And here’s the BM hunter specifically page on crafted gear:
https://www.wowhead.com/guide/classes/hunter/beast-mastery/bis-gear#crafted-gear
You can only have TWO embellished crafted pieces of gear (although there is no limit to how many pieces of crafted gear you can have), so if this is your first crafted item, i’d stick a Blue Silken Lining embellishment on it, which increases your mastery when your hp is over 90%. like with the missive, the quality of the embellishment makes it easier to craft your finished piece at higher levels, so try to get a three star piece if you can. (note: some crafted pieces - not the bow, but others - come with an embellishment already installed, so carefully check the tooltip of each item before you craft it. you can remove OPTIONAL embellishments like the bow’s later if you want to via recrafting).
- your third slot is your Aspect/dreaming crest - this is a craftable bop item you can make that increases the item level of your finished piece. you get the materials from running heroic raids or keys at least +11, and you can have an enchanter make you a dreaming crest out of your items and some change. Here’s a quick guide on that:
https://www.wowhead.com/guide/item-upgrade-system-dragonflight#using-crests-for-profession-item-upgrades
If you don’t have a dreaming crest, or if you add the wrong missive or embellishment, don’t panic! all crafted items can be recrafted using way less mats to swap all these things around - you do not need a spark to recraft an already-made item.
