Question about Odin

So if all souls go to the shadow lands to be judged, why exactly does Odin get to take whomever he pleases? Is it just vrykul who have that? Is it because hes a god so he can just take vrykul souls?

I consider Odyn and the skyhold as a fifth covenant, if you understand.

Only those considered worthy go to skyhold, according to lore.

There’s a lot of lore they haven’t done for this yet. But I’m sure this blizzard variant Odyn stole some sort of ability from the Shadowlands and has his own tiny pocket realm of the Shadowlands, where he snags great warriors with his own valkyr.

Except the Halls of Valor are not in the shadowlands.

He made an agreement with someone on the other side (possibly the jailer) to gain the ability to see into the shadowlands and claim souls for his army. He had to give up any eye to do so.
You find out about this when learning about helya how she ended up being locked up in helheim and his army and lokens betrayal.

Odyn created his own val’kyr from vrykul spirits (though Helya was the first one) and made a deal with one of the greater death spirits trading his eye for the ability to see into the Shadowlands.

His val’kyr, kind of like the kyrians, are ferries who safeguard souls in their passage. Except his take worthy vrykul before they go to the Arbiter and bring them to the Halls of Valor instead.

The Shadowlands has its own system, but with necromancy or alternative ways people can bypass that and do their own things with the souls they claim.

They might do the same thing Devos did with Arthas, stole the soul/body right before they go to the shadowlands and restore it using Odin’s Valkyr and light powers. They are ressed or ascended, whatever you want to call.

Odyn sacrificed his eye to peer into The Shadowlands to learn how to claim souls for himself.

He saw (presumably) The Kyrians. And he decided he would model his Val’kyr after them. He demanded the female Vykrul warriors step up to take on this burden.

When they refused and Helya argued it may be unfair to subject them to this, he mind controlled her, forced her to become a Val’kyr and made her turn the others.

Yes. You’re right.

What Odyn does is to take these souls using the valkyrs before they go to the Shadowlands. But that works pretty much the same way as the Bastion for example, at least the way it was shown at the afterlife video.

“All souls” don’t automatically go to Oribos/Arbiter to be judged. When somebody dies, their soul is pretty much up for grabs for anyone with the power to grab it.

Odyn
Helya
The Lich King
Val’kyr
Various other necromancers
Warlocks
Priests and other healers
Some Void entities
And Khadgar… that guy… he is into some crazy magic- and he definitely knows some stuff that is definitely illegal for most Dalaran mages to do. I’d never mess with Khadgar.

But there are lots of people that work with magic that can interact with souls in various ways that can stop the Kyrian from taking it, and possibly even steal souls from the Kyrian.

Brief recap of the lore:
Titans created the keepers to fight the black empire speed forward keepers are doing their thing.
A proto drake becomes a beast to the point hes eating other proto drakes (galgaround i believe is the spelling idk its a spot in dragonblight where he fell) .
Tyr sees this going down recruits 5 protodrakes to help him take it down he basically feeds it his hand to land the killing blow.
Tyr then suggests to the other keepers to empower them to help keep things safe.
All the keepers are on board except odyn who bascially takes part of ulduar to make his own halls of valor with the help of helya.
Odyn and helya split and the other other keepers create the dragon aspects and the flights.
Odyn decides that the keepers are wrong the aspects aren’t good enough he wants an army of the best warriors to ever exist.
He gets help from helya to look into the shadowlands where a voice responds tells him he needs to give up something in exchange for looking into this realm. So he offers up any eye and from what he sees designs the halls of valor and gets the idea for the valkyr.
Except as op above said except he wasn’t asking helya to become one she was going to be one no matter what he had already decided to change her.
She carries out this for a while growing in resentment and eventually meets up with loken who wants to take control of ulduar because he fell under yoggs sway.

But cant because odyn is still the prime designate(the fail safe if they die that calls the titans back).
Loken uses helya to trap odyn in the halls of valor in a pocket dimension like the elemental planes.
Helya then goes off to make her own army and snatching up souls that odyn would have taken, loken goes back to ulduar and raises hell with the other keepers…
And the rest is pretty much wrath/legion history.
(In legion stormhiem you see how he marks the chosen before they die through rituals and challenges)

I agree that Odyns Valkyr snatch up souls for The Halls of Valor, but I believe that is BEFORE those souls go to the arbiter, much like Devos and Uther they just go down and claim the souls for Odyn and bypass the arbiter. However if the shadowlands are working properly and the Kyrians are doing their jobs properly they bring those souls to the Arbiter and the Arbiter decides which realm of the shadowlands they go to, since the Halls of Valor are not in the shadowlands I would say it safe to assume that whoever is worthy of the Halls of Valor is up for Odyn to decide, not the Arbiter.

Correct odyn gets first dibs on his chosen souls they are marked.
Remember the whole deal with the woman vykrul town and the odyn challenge he marks the greatest.

Shadowlands is not the absolute afterlife of WoW, there’s many.

Odin

Helya

Bwosandi’s afterlife

Shadowlands

Extra shadowlands zones we don’t get to see(theres a ton)

Nether for demons

ect

He can make exceptions basically.

seems everyone has a pocket dimension. I’m the Supreme champion grand poobah of legend excelsior wielder of necks and Purple cloaks.

What’s my take away? Nada. my soul just a pinball among “gods”

Tbh nether isnt really an afterlife its more the elemental plane they are tied to.

I’d hope I would go to Skyhold when I died. As much as I like the concept of Maldraxxus, Skyhold is way cooler. Plus it has Vrykul women so it wins by default for me.

he steals them on the way

Well, you see Odin takes souls to train them to fight in Ragnarok.

Oh, you meant Odyn? Different story.
